Credit to Sven for having the balls to put on Rooney.

It should never have come to that against T&T, but it shows just how reliant we are on the fella to increase the tempo. He didn't do much but then he doesn't have to - him being on the park ignites those around him.

Hopefully, Sven will also have the balls to drop Lampard for Carrick and Crouch for Rooney. Carrick stays holding, Gerrard gets unshackled, Rooney makes runs and space for Owen and we win the World Cup.

One of your main arguements last year for not blaming Mcghee was it was the players that played not the manager.

No,I think it was that the players weren't good enough for the Championship, big difference, as I believe we have the players to be a decent England side but the organisation is the manager's responsibilty isn't it?

Decent yes, World Champions? no.

I would love England to win it but they wont - see other thread.

I must admit in a warped, misanthropic way I'm quite enjoying all this handwringing. I've banged on for months about how Owen Gerrard, Lampard etc, whilst admittedly being very good by English standards, are NOT world class. This is not some 'golden genearation', it's not the best team since 1966 (it's certainly not as good as 1990) and we are not taking the World Cup by storm.

As I didn't have any high expectations I'm quite pleased with our progress so far; 6 points and no goals conceded. All achieved with the typical stodgy, uninspiring, workmanlike performances that England have produced throughout the decades.

Told you so.

(Now PLEASE prove me wrong).

i can see Sven changing to the 3-5-2 that finished the T&T game

Owen and Rooney up front, with Beckham and Cole as wing backs
Carrick olding behind Lampard and Gerrard, that way he dosent have to drop any of the big boys.....

4 things are now patently obvious:

1. Lampard and Gerrard are one and the same player, and Gerrard is the better of the two.

2. Our best chance of winning the World Cup is by playing high tempo with a holding player, freeing Joe Cole, Rooney, Gerrard to make runs all over the park.

3. We have a settled back 4 and keeper and they are looking rock solid - we should not disrupt this.

4. You cannot drop Beckham because he is captain and his crossing is as good as it has ever been right now.

The Swedish Clown is a useless twat and will blow this world cup for us. We have one of the best squads and could win it or come close if we had a proper manager.

We will most likely lose in the 2nd round, if we go 1-0 up after 10 minutes , Sven will shout out, David get all of the boys behind the ball I want us to defend for the next 80 minutes and pray to god the opposition don't score.

Lampard is a useless fat idiot. He doesn't deserve to start the next game after that SHOCKER. I'd play Becks in the middle, f*** the 'holding role' and chuck Lennon on the right.

If you put a holding midfielder in there you will see the best of Gerrard.

In any case if Ecuador draw with Germany, we need do not want to win this group.

i think we need to win the group

im pretty sure Germany will beat Equador.

Unless we improve we will be knocked out by either side anyway.

Im pretty confident we will improve, we just have too, a team with the quality of players we have has to deliver eventually !

Stick with Owen and Rooney and keep playing them please Sven.
Its the only way we will win the world cup.

The good thing is we will know what is needed on Tuesday as the German group will have finished.

Ideally I want Ecuador in Munich (means them winning the group) as there will be tickets floating around for that.

However we have to beat whatever is put in front of us.

How can anyone be happy with that performance? Is it only me that sat there thinking, "We need to step up at least 10 gears to get near Spain/Argentina/Czech Republic/Ivory Coast/Holland/Germany/Italy even?"

I can't believe the treatment of Owen. The way he can't work out how to get the best from Lampard & Gerrard. Bringing Walcott for no reason. Bringing Jenas & leaving Defoe at home. (Surely we have enough midfielders; but strikers?)

I'm just not confident & I have never forgiven that Swedish Kunt for the way I felt after losing to Brazil 4 years ago when they were there to be beaten.

Bring back El Tel. (No, I'm not a fan of McClaren either!)

Agree with all of that ... until the El Tel bit. But even then, to hear him speak last night after the game, making all the points the rest of us have been screaming Sven's directions for ages, made me realise how much better he is than what we currently have.

As El Tel said, this formation has to change when we play the stronger sides, as Lampard and Gerrard without an anchorman behind them simply doesn't get the best outr of them, and will get overrun by better sides.

On the plus side, bring Lennon on was a very good move by Sven. Didn't quite understand what Beckham's position was having made the switch, but having Lennon's pace, and the fact that he gave us the width we weren't getting from Beckham, changed the game.

Well done Sven, bringing Lennon on was a top move .... just a shame you are not giving Owen the time on the pitch that he desperately needs though. I've never heard him sound as down as he did in the post-match interview.

It wasn't Sven who couldn't even hit the target when given the ball unchalleneged, it wasn't Sven who ballooned shots over the bar and it wasn't Sven who wasted the free kicks. Admittedly it probably was Sven who told them the way to beat a packed defence is just to sling diagonal balls into the box - although he did get it right in the end.

I'm sorry, but all those of you who believed the hype about how good this current England side are these last two games must have come as a harsh wake-up call. You're angry because your own unrealistic expectations haven't been met. The reality is that this is just a run-of-the-mill, bog-standard England team performing pretty much as we always do - in fact to be honest it's a bit better than we often do. Sadly as per usual the cry is "we've got the players, it's the manager's fault". Wrong, it's a bit of both, but as I mentioned earlier it's not the manager who lacks the required football skills. Just try and enjoy the next two games and don't put so much pressure on the team for the next tournament.

(I'm making myself a hostage to fortune, I really want these words flung back at me).
