Sven Bashers

bollocks - most of the Mcghee bashers didnt have a go (well i didnt) if Brighton won - so after about 7 games last year.

Yeah, but in the division we were in, we were Trinidad and Tobago :)

Edit: f***, Icy Gull beat me to it

In all fairness, it wasn't f***ing working, so for once he f***ing changed it. Credit to Sven, cos I was chewing the table after the first half.

Personally I would NOT have taken Owen off because (a) he needs games and (b) he's always likely to nick you one. But change it he did, and we ended up winning. Luck ? Judgement ? Who knows. But I know that Downing played a FANTASTIC raking ball from left to right that Lennon picked up, laid back to Beckham, who slung it in to the far post for 1-0. Gerrards goal showed what we all know he can do, but his role for England means he is in those damaging positions FAR too rarely for my liking, specially as Lampard left his shooting boots in Kings Road.

We're through the group so its mission accomplished. But theres still plenty for Sven to think about, because we really were gash for most of that.

You cant hide away from the fact that subs wise Sven got it spot on tonight. He made a double substitution with half an hour to go and it worked, we won the game. People still criticise him. Words fail me.:nono:

Still didn't agree with taking Owen off, but I was relieved that he made a change, because by christ we needed it. Effective Sven substitutions are something of a rarity, so tonights was one to savour. With 15 minutes left, I was CONVINCED we were going to score..

Well done Sven. You've altered the course of a game against Trinidad & Tobago. Now lets see what you're made of when we need a goal against someone half decent.

I've been as annoyed as most about the level of baseless Sven-bashing on here - but to be fair, after that performance they have more of a case than at any time previously.
H, that is a crock of shit. Sven sorted it out perfectly.

Simster, your capacity for wind-ups is legendary - and you are surely having a laugh. That was for the most part abysmal and is obviously either the fault of the manager or the players.

I have recognised some good substitutions, and put the blame mainly on the players. Partial quoting has its drawbacks...

How can anyone be happy with that performance? Is it only me that sat there thinking, "We need to step up at least 10 gears to get near Spain/Argentina/Czech Republic/Ivory Coast/Holland/Germany/Italy even?"

I can't believe the treatment of Owen. The way he can't work out how to get the best from Lampard & Gerrard. Bringing Walcott for no reason. Bringing Jenas & leaving Defoe at home. (Surely we have enough midfielders; but strikers?)

I'm just not confident & I have never forgiven that Swedish Kunt for the way I felt after losing to Brazil 4 years ago when they were there to be beaten.

Bring back El Tel. (No, I'm not a fan of McClaren either!)

Spot on - we HAVE to drop one of Gerrard or Lampard if we're going to do anything in this tournament.

So true, annoying thing is we have known this for YEARS. He has tried (fair play to him) to accomodate both but it just doesnt work. Big decision but I think it needs to be made myself and I think gerrard should play with carrick.

No I thought that the whole way through. I didnt get my hopes up today because I expect a poor performance from england everytime we play now. We won and thats the main thing but we wont win against any bigger sides playing like that.

At least we won't see that "England haven't scored a second-half goal since 1966" stat trotted again. That and Rooney looking OK were the positives.

Ve hass 53% possession,Paraguay hass only 47%.Ve hass 8 shoots,Paraguay 3.Ve scored no goalss,Paraguay scored vun...err for us.These not things I say,these things FIFA say.

I hass most talented grup England players probably ever,we win der games we haff 6 points.I am great.Ve bit Trindad ,ve play our best 6minutes,perhaps THE best 6 minutes so far in World Cup.

Maybe I substitute myself with wotsisname from Middles borough against Sverige so you haff chance,eh?No,this another Nordic yoke,eh!

We get our best ever team, one nil not boring or dodgy.Don't forget that Brett Sancho nearly good enough for Brighton Seagulls I think.

But I haff betted on Spain, with little bit e/w on Italy.

Credit to Sven for having the balls to put on Rooney.

It should never have come to that against T&T, but it shows just how reliant we are on the fella to increase the tempo. He didn't do much but then he doesn't have to - him being on the park ignites those around him.

Hopefully, Sven will also have the balls to drop Lampard for Carrick and Crouch for Rooney. Carrick stays holding, Gerrard gets unshackled, Rooney makes runs and space for Owen and we win the World Cup.

Forget me and Sim. The escalation you really want to see is an apoplectic, red-faced Sir Alex Ferguson publicly turning on Sven and telling him if he can't beat T&T without a recuperating Rooney he's a clueless numpty and tactically bankrupt.

And he would have at least half a point. After all, last night we saw the biggest aerial bombardment Germany has seen since.....[insert own punchline]

In my opinion, you cant blame Sven for the players inability to pass the ball properly, total mis-passes, and in the main most of them had a bad day at the office.................BUT !!!!!!!!!!!!! they still won.........which is what mattered

How about the totally naive one man in defence when we started to panic and poured forward like an under 12's team? Can we blame him for that? A team with a decent forward would have punished us at least twice.

2 wins out of 2 is simply not good enough. We should have had at least 5 wins out of 2 and be in the semi-finals by now. What is Sven playing at?

One of your main arguements last year for not blaming Mcghee was it was the players that played not the manager.
