Just got back from the County ground. The championship is so close. If it goes well we should get the 300 runs in the afternoon session. I hope as many people as possible will be there to celebrate an historic championship win.

Four years ago I never seen the Albion or Sussex win a league title, but by tomorrow I will have witnessed four.

Good old Sussex by the sea.

:)

10:30 same place, happy hour 4pm-5pm again tomorrow, £1 a pint of Oranjeboom!!!...

Mushtaq Ahmed collected his 100th wicket this season and helped Sussex to within three points of a first Frizzell County Championship title.

The first of Mushtaq's four wickets against Leicestershire chalked up his century and kick-started a collapse from 111 for one to 179 all out.

Sussex responded with 137 for one by stumps.

They will clinch their maiden title with a third batting point on Thursday - irrespective of how their only challengers Lancashire are doing against Nottinghamshire.

Lancs need to take maximum points against Notts and hope Sussex do not get the six points they need to win the title. At the close in Trent Bridge, Notts declared on 376 for nine.

Mushtaq (four for 71) broke a second-wicket stand of 69 between Darren Maddy (55) and Brad Hodge when he bowled the Australian with a perfectly-pitched leg-break to become the first bowler since 1998 to take 100 in a championship season.

Leicestershire - like Nottinghamshire already relegated - initially looked ready to fight hard in the hope of only their second victory of the season.

Darren Maddy hit 55 until he thrashed a Taylor long-hop just within the clutches of Tony Cottey who took a very good catch diving to his right at point.

Luke Wright, like Sadler, made the minimum when he pushed a bat-pad catch off Mushtaq to short-leg - and then Paul Nixon edged Taylor behind on the front-foot defence.

From the sudden calamity of 118 for six, Jeremy Snape and Phil DeFreitas tried to salvage something worthwhile. But each eventually succumbed, Snape guiding a catch behind off Lewry and his captain bowled as he pushed forward a little loosely at Martin-Jenkins.

For good measure, Martin-Jenkins snared his third and wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose's fourth victim when Vasbert Drakes nicked another one behind - and then number 11 David Masters gave himself up with a wild swish to be bowled by Mushtaq to close the innings.

In 35 overs of batting to stumps Sussex lost only Montgomerie as they consolidated their advantage.

After Tim Montgomerie had edged behind as he pushed forward at DeFreitas, a largely unthreatening attack bowled a little too short at Murray Goodwin (71no) who put on 113 with Cottey (47no).

Mushtaq Ahmed achieved a lifetime's ambition as he completed 100 wickets in a county Frizzell County Championship season which is now sure to end in Sussex's first ever title.

Brad Hodge was Mushtaq's 100th victim - with the last ball before lunch at Hove - on a day which finished with relegated Leicestershire bowled out for 179 and Sussex 137 for one in reply.

It is a scenario which means Sussex should win their first title in 113 years of trying some time on Thursday afternoon - regardless of how their only feasible challengers Lancashire fare in their own final match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

Mushtaq credited his captain Chris Adams, Sussex coach Peter Moores and the emerging talents of Matthew Prior and Robin Martin-Jenkins as the other driving forces behind Sussex's success

But there is no question the Pakistan leg-spinner has played a hugely significant part, and he allowed himself a moment of satisfaction when he said: "It has always been my dream to get 100 wickets in county cricket.

"To achieve it is a great reward for me after coming close before."

The last of those wickets followed number 99 after one ball short of 45 wicketless overs, against Lancashire at Old Trafford last week and initially on Wednesday.

But for a man who, at the age of 33, has in the past two years found an increasing strength in his Muslim faith, that was simply another challenge to overcome.

"I never give up and I thought it might happen like that - because God is always testing you," he said.

"I was determined to get there and am so happy I have managed it."
