Sussex Police senior officer found dead at home (From The Argus)
"A senior police officer arrested for shoplifting last month has been found dead.
Sussex Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Detective Chief Inspector Jim Torbet, of the force's professional standards department.
He had been suspended since September, when he was arrested at Marks and Spencer in Shoreham on suspicion of shoplifting along with a colleague, Chief Inspector Sharon Rowe.
DCI Torbet was found dead at his home in the early hours of this morning.
The 54-year-old had served as an officer in Sussex Police for 28 years, receiving five commendations.
Sussex Police Chief Constable Martin Richards said: "It is with the greatest sadness and regret that I have to tell colleagues of the sudden and untimely death overnight of Detective Chief Inspector Jim Torbet.
"Jim had given many years of loyal and dedicated service to Sussex Police, and in recent years has served as Detective Chief Inspector in the Professional Standards Department.
"Jim was a popular and valued member of our team. I would ask that the privacy of all those affected by this news is respected at this very difficult time."
The death has been referred to the East Sussex coroner's office for investigation. "
Very tragic!
