"Sussex By The Sea". Sing fast or slow?

Our anthem has sped up over the years. I think it's best sung slow like a hymn. Trouble is, when I sing it at "my" speed, I'm still going way after everyone else. Any thoughts?

The humming at the beginning is supposed to be slow.

Yeah I think we sing it too fast, so much so that a lot of the time the words fade into one noise if peoples timing is slightly off, sounds miles better slow, more triumphant as well.

Do we not also start it slow (maybe not slow enough) but speed up, especially after the "all together now" ?

Dry drinking a few extra pints before the match - there's nothing like a bit of a slurring to keep the singing speed down.

It also ensures that you hit maximum volume for the "AND WE"RE GOING UP TO WIN THE CUP FOR SUSSEX BY THE SEA" bit.

It never gets sung "all together" in H/J Block either, while one group are on "for Sussex by the Sea" another is still "going up to win the cup".

It just sounds like a big mess of words.

Right. Aim for 15 seconds. Start Saturday. If you tell 2 people who regularly attend Albion matches and sing to tell 2 other people, this should spread the word? Let's hope for the re-birth of our anthem this weekend.
