After all the good reports from the pre season games is it not time to get his signature on a bit bit of papaer saying 'three year deal' on it somewhere??

It's quality players like this that will keep us comfortable this season.

Come on McGhee. Sign him up!

McGhee mentioned that Currie is on a free but Nicholas is something else, not sure what, probably could do another Leon style signing and pay an undisclosed fee or something. Not sure McGhee would want to waste a loan on him if ther chance is there of signing him permanantly.

If he is still contracted at Chelsea, I suspect it will be similar to the Knight deal, no fee, but if we sell him, Chelsea will see a large amount of that fee (I am told that the get 50% of whatever we make on Leon).

I thought the Leon fee was based on promotion? or was that just another NSC rambling?

If we took Nicolas on loan and then he signed permanantly then the loan would not count towards the total number of loans allowed for the season.

I believe that Knights transfer fee was based on us getting promoted, but ontop of that Chelsea have a huge sell on clause.

Was it not 100,000 if he got us promotion and then 50% of anything we make through his sale?

Quite a savvy bit of business if you ask me. He paid it all back in one kick at Cardiff.

I say sign 'em both anyway, at least on 3 month contracts to see how they fair in Div1. We have 27-28 squad players but take Rodger/Blackwell and we have less...obviously! At least in signing them we have added more to the squad which is what we need.

a couple of point:

Maybe McGhee likes them both but is hanging on for something better to pop up?

Maybe its same as above but wages play a factor?

McGhee has stated on the official site "is that the kind of player we need?" so Maybe he knows we needs something more?

Maybe McGhee will save the wages for loan signings, obviusoly the reported Arsenal youngsters but maybe an experienced Div1 Pro on loan from a Prem club where he wont get a game all season? or another Div1 club?

Can we do better than Nicolas within our current playing budget though? Surely it's a good thing if he improves our squad and the fact that he is a youngster that is looking to make something of his career must be a good thing?

yeah agree wit the 2nd thing but the first is something that..lets face it...no one on NSC is entirely sure of. We all pretty much agree we have low funds for wages, just how low that is nobody knows. Thats why I think McGhee is stalling for a possible new signing or saving for loan signings. Dont forget that suspensions & injuries to one specific area may mean a desperate loan for a month or 3 and McGhee may need to save some cash for that day too, if he does'nt we could be left with playing Virgo upfront for example!

So why have we bothered keeping him here on trial? It's pretty obvious that we are going to attempt to get a couple of loanees in. The loan system has adapted to help teams like us.

I believe that he will vastly improve our midfield and should be signed up ASAP whether permanently or on a long term loan.

I think he looks quality & is definitely what our midfield needs, (& has needed for several years.) A strong creative passer.

I think we should be doing all we can to get him here. Even if we miss out on 50% of any sell on; if it means he'll come & do a job that keeps us in this league.

Everyone's saying he's better than Oatway bar one person...

McGhee said he would sign players if they would improve the team...

By my reckoning if he's better than Oatway he will improve the team...

We should be signing him.

cant comment on improving the squad with him as I hav'nt seen him for myself. Keeping him on trial well maybe McGhee wants to see him in a reserves match or something or basically has'nt made his mind up yet. Think I read on the official site he wants to make a decision by the weekend if he thinks they both can play a part in the Reading game, so maybe I was off with the reserves bit. I'm sure McGhee knows what he's doing.

Haven't seen Nicolas play, but have seen Currie a few times... the former is compared to Charlie, i.e. not particularly creative... don't think we need that kind of player... the latter can actually pass!!... something we definitely need in our midfield, which lacks creativity, and has done for years now...
