[Albion] Surely we must have some decent free kick takers in this squad?

Honestly starting to wonder if he’ll be wheeled out to take them post-retirement given we just can’t seem to stop him

I’ve worked out the technical dialogue during the ultra long player discussions pre each set piece.

“Rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb … “.
"Over? Under? Left curve? Right curve? Out wide left? Out wide right? Back to Verbruggen and build a devastating attack? Nah ...straight at the wall...'ave it!!"

Comes to something when I don't even want a free kick given to us in a dangerous position because it wastes about 3 minutes a time and you know the bloody outcome!
I dread free kicks and corners. We never score from them and often it's a chance for the opposition to break - two of their shots today came from our corners.

The best free kick takers score every ~12-15th shot they take from free kicks. Its a garbage way of trying to score goals in general.

Again, Lewis Dunk taking 21 shots from free kicks over 8 years is really the smallest issue imaginable. Its not the reason why we didn't win.

Frighteningly, a huge proportion of the 21 have been over the last 24 months. WTF.

Well, it is true that last season was Dunk's free kick-heaviest (4 in the PL and 4 in Europa League) but otherwise its been quite a steady stream, with the exception for 21/22 and 22/23 when we had Mac Allister.

17/18: 1
18/19: 2
19/20: 5
20/21: 3
21/22: 0
22/23: 1
23/24: 8
24/25: 1

So thats 20 and I'm missing some FA Cup FK or something, but either way: we usually have strikers missing more chances in a game than Dunk does in a season. Its not a great issue.

Thanks.

Aren’t free-kicks just outside the box something to covet, to give yourself a chance, to at least seriously work the goalie?

Seems unprofessional to keep giving the captain a chance, when he’s totally ineffective at them.

Might as well hand the ball back to Ipswich, rather than lose precious time.
