We are discussing the Official Supporters Club on a platform that has many times the number of members. Contains members who were, and some still are the movers and shakers of the Fans of all dimensions of the Fan base.
Fan idea's are posted on here and sometimes become fact, news arrives here first and is disseminated to all who care to look. Members are involved in Fund raising, providing news for the Sussex press and helping with the signing of players. ( Vicente) Input of a very broad cross section of ideas are postulated and picked apart on here, and many more bits and pieces that concern the Fans and the Club.
So to me as a Fan, NSC is the supporters Club, it may not be Official but in this millenium it certainly works as a Supporters Club, and no membership fee!

It's stuff from the past like this that puts people off.

I went on their coach a few times before I was old enough to drive so it was about 15 years ago, but you always got the feeling if you weren't a regular that people didn't really want you there. Liz Costa had a go at my friend because someone defaced their sh*tty raffle sheet that was going round the bus, it was nothing to do with us but we got the blame because our faces didn't fit, we never bothered after that. A different time, when the argus ran those coaches to scunthorpe in about 98/99 she was really rude to my friend because he went to get on the wrong bus (her one)
i'd like to think that some of the coach trips i've been on ARE ON A DIFFERENT PLANET TO THESE ONE'S and have been a good laugh, trip to Peterborough springs to mind , COACH BREAKS DOWN AT Hickstead services, TIOLET over flowing even before we've reached Peterborough??? stand up comedian and porn films on the way home
regards

My God. I'm no great fan of the supporters club we are talking about, but given the choice l'd much rather travel on their coach than the one to which you refer. I go there to watch football, not listen to poor stand up comedians (how does he stand up on a coach?), or watch porn.

HE STOOD IN THE AISLE, ALSO THE CURTAINS WERE PULLED WHEN THE PORN WAS ON SO NO OTHER DRIVERS WERE DISTRACTED :)

nothing could be further from the truth. It's a forum not a club. Faceless, anonymous, trolls, imposters, undemocratic, no elected body to represent it, I could go on.

NSC is great and serves its purpose but it's not a club.

Question to SC bods: Do you still post that monthly newsletter? I used to love reading that. If you do I might join again.

Your description sounds a lot like most Clubs to me. ( Or what most members think of their Clubs.)

Interesting post this. I totally agree.

The facts:

Season ticket holders 23,000
NSC members 18,000
NSC active members 6,300
Supporters club members 300

So which would you say is more representative of the Albion's fan base now? It certainly isn't the supporters club. Average age 60 possibly?

A very bitter post this. It is self regulating, represents a much larger part of the fan base than the supporters club and also does a huge amount of good for the club and supporters alike.

I can guarantee that the club listens to NSC much more closely than the supporters club.

But could you rely on them to attend meetings, arrange coaches, supply monthly club news and almanacs. Would they meet up with other club's supporters groups and attend football federation get-togethers anywhere in the country? No, they couldn't be arsed if it meant them leaving their computers.
All people have done on this thread is to try to put the supporters club down. Why don't some of you join for a year and give an opinion of it afterwards when you actually know what you are talking about?

That being the case why did the supporters club go direct to the FA having completed their tick chart about homophobia as opposed to discuss with the club first ?

That's fair comment, but the club need to give people more information about what they do in order to attract interest.

i am not even going to read the the rest of this thread because you have simply summed it up from my point of view,as far as i see it the supporters club are a closed shop,I think they are very happy with that, they like it as it is and are happy with their small unit support,it really is an out of date clique however. We get 26000 at home you would have thought someone could organise a supporters club with supporters interests as opposed to a coach hire company that have a worrying preoccupation with the percentage of gay albion fans

All you have done there is list functions of the SC. There's no justification for why they are done nor why they are important, if they are at all. From what others have said, if the SC membership is low, there can't be significant demand for any of these services.

I'm playing devil's advocate there a bit. I have massive respect for folk like Liz, Sarah and Tony not to mention Tim who, rightly or wrongly, I always link with the SC. They work tirelessly on many fronts, not seeking any plaudits or recognition for their endeavours. Liz, in particular, has ensured that Albion fans can get to Albion games everywhere for many years. The value of this can not be under-estimated.

However, you then group all c20,000 NSCers together, saying they "couldn't be arsed" - again without any justification at all. I'm invited to many meetings at the club on many subjects. Living in Somerset, it is often neither practical nor possible for me to attend - most are mid-week, but there is never a shortage of willing volunteers to step in.

I've often toyed with using NSC as a springboard to launch a supporters' organisation. Whether it was free to join or involved a nominal payment, I believe it would immediately become the largest Albion fans' organisation, measured by membership numbers, but I'm not sure there is a need. I'll give it thought again when I've moved back to Sussex.

Completely wrong. As I said before if you want the club to change then join in an vote for change. If ignorance is bliss then you must be over the moon.
