Historically play off winners struggle to stay up so it's fair to ask how Sunderland will do, particularly with how badly the promoted teams have done the last two years.

With the strength of the rest of the league I think the promoted teams will need to finish in the high 30s if they want to stay up. I just can't see how any of the 'established' teams will get less than 36 or 37.

I reckon Leeds could do it, maybe burnley, but it's s big ask for Sunderland who are a level or at least half a level below those two.

I think they'll go back down but won't be as bad as Southampton. Probably they'll be more like Leicester and Ipswich and finish somewhere in the 20s. If they break 30 that's a good season, if they stay up it'll be an incredible achievement.

You have to remember that they're currently the weakest of the promoted 3 and every other team in the league has at least two years head start on them. That's a pretty big disadvantage for them.

I think they have a better chance than last year's lot, but I must admit I was not overly impressed by them yesterday. Looked pretty average IMO but just took their 2 main chances. Obviously they will strengthen in the summer and they might have a 1 season bounce but I do expect them to be in the bottom handful of clubs come the end of 25/26.

Does the owner have deep pockets?

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus

In February 2021, Louis-Dreyfus became the minority shareholder and Chairman of English Premier League football club, Sunderland.[3][4][5] In June 2022, he became the majority shareholder.

If only they were related.

EDIT: It turns out they actually are related. But very distantly
