Be careful what you wish for. Sunderland are a significant bigger club than us with a significantly bigger stadium, trophy cabinet and fan base. Who the hell are we to take the p*** out of a newly promoted club. How many points did we get from the bottom three this season.
Err… where am I taking the piss? Just asking a question?

Oh come on! If we can’t take the piss I’m not playing. Most of the fun comes from taking the piss and getting it back.

Exactly right. It's alarming the amount of cocky big club syndrome people in here have developed recently. Demanding Europe and manager sackings and laughing at promoted teams.

Remember what you all thought when we got promoted? You would be calling all that deluded and entitled and plastic. Get a grip and take a look at yourselves.

Love to see clubs who haven’t been in PL for a few years as opposed to the constant promotion of relegated club, enjoyed Ipswich’s brief stay and think that Sunderland will enjoy their adventure. Hope they do OK. Certainly a club with a rich history and passionate fanbase.

At least Southampton bossed the Championship and came up with a winning mentality and style of play. Sunderland have been garbage for about two months.

Fair play coming good at the right time, but I suspect they will be rock bottom
Southampton and Sunderland both finished 4th 🤷‍♂️

I'm pleased for Sunderland and looking forward to going there. It's a great club with top support.

It's also far too early to say how they'll do on the pitch. Give them the transfer window first.

Finishing 4th on 87 points with 26 wins (including a run of 21 games unbeaten) is a very different type of form to finishing 4th with 76 points and on a run of 5 straight defeats, but yeah looking at it simply, they both came 4th.
They had pretty similar seasons. That run of 5 defeats was when they had secured a play off place but could get auto, so were coasting. Saints were in the mix for autos until a couple of games from the end so stayed at it.

The Sunderland manager and their recruitment team will no doubt explore the French market this summer.

Lest we forget, some of Leicester's key players ten years ago were brought over from teams plying their trade in the top two divisions(Ligue 1 and 2).

Could be a good fit for Evan Ferguson too, if he's sent out on loan again.

It's going to be tough. They need a handful of really good acquisitions - I remember for us feeling a boost of confidence when I watched Gross & Ryan in our first season along with some of our own but every point will be precious. I wish them well

Unlike Leeds and Burnley - and for that matter Sheffield - who have fairly recently been in the PL, Sunderland (like most of The Championship) haven't been near the PL for years; inevitably they will be less well prepared - indeed they might well have not really expected to go up, so probably haven't invested so much.
Like Ipswich, although they seem to have a good manager, they'll have a huge gap to bridge.
Their owner(s) will need deep pockets.

Southampton got quite a few more points, but that said, Sunderland seemed to stop playing a while back whereas Southampton were in the hunt much later
