Not new news, but in a year without a tournament players could have properly recovered, fixed injuries, had that hair transplant etc but instead a bunch of them have to deal with the below. Some of England's players could be done in by the time the world cup starts on 11 June 2026.

I imagine herding cats doesn't even get close to trying to get a bunch of highly paid multi-national premier league players to agree to a strike, but I agree, they need a proper break. The only way it might happen is if the Premier League starts to see the quality of their product declining due to injuries and take a stand, but I can't see that happening either. I don't know if the PFA has the teeth to do anything about this.

It will only take one players union for it to domino across Europe

im sure there will be the usual comments of " ah but they get paid enough" but thats not the point, the internationals, playing for clubs in European or other confederation tournaments have basically not had proper breaks since covid. Im convinced this is the reason for the apparent increase in injuries .

And @lost in london ’s post doesn’t even include the international commitments throughout the season

IMO yes they get paid enough to compensate for career risk but makes for a poorer level of fan entertainment or joy when we have to watch our team limp through the midway Premier League season with no defenders or wingers.

The standard across the leagues is pretty shite, it's not just the PL

It's walking football at times

Plus the Albion, should they get lucky enough to claim that last European spot in the Europa Conference League, could be playing group games, long before the start of the regular season.

Definitely. Money is irrelevant if your body doesn't work properly. It's completely ridiculous.

FIFA particularly are poison.
They don’t care about the players at all.

It really is time for players to abandon the international calendar, until the world club cup for starters is abandoned.

Of course it’ll never happen, as the fall out for individuals would be too much, abandoning your country etc…

Quite. Getting paid a shed load of money isn't an insurance against injury. And players should have a break like every other human being. There really should be no football anywhere for a four week break over the summer and probably two weeks in winter. All agreed across the associations.

Needs a two month blanket ban on football that all these lucrative matches are forced to work around. Players aren't machines, much as the moneymen would like them to be
After Sunday there’s no football for me until August. It’s going off. This season has gone on too long as it is.

June, July, and August is for cycling and cricket.

I was about to say the same. No interest in anything on that list apart from the first and last items.

(And it's not mandatory to have overseas pre-season tours - the clubs do that to themselves).
