can I suggest theres something wrong with the ladies you see??

no, not at all ! I went for a meal last night and then to 3 clubs, in every club this was definately the look (except in West st I should imagine). Maybe some of you should keep up a little bit more with current trends, try picking up the latest fashion mags for a start and have a flick through !

If you all feel happier in your lacoste/burberry/stone Island old has been looks then fair enough - each to their own !

Basically, it is a bit 80's, a bit gay and a bit naff. but if you can get away with it it does look cool, theres no denying it from my own and wilko's experience.

fashion shouldnt be about conforming. jackets with these trousers and this shirt and so on. I admit in the 80's this look would have been a yuppie pile of shit, but these are the, er, naughties.

You can wear what you want, as long as it looks good.

It ain't what you do it's the way that you do it. And that's what gets results.
I think The Strokes have made the jacket'n'jeans combo cool again, although you'll never catch me in Converse All-Stars. Ever.
I think the jacket & t-shirt combo is very tricky to get right & easy to screw up. I've never risked it. Stick with a shirt.
The jacket & footwear have to match up. Black & black is your best bet. No blazers, The Style Council split up years ago. You want plenty of width at the bottom of the jean. If you ain't got it, cut 'em at the seam - you don't want any sock exposure. Always wear a belt, even if you don't need one. Have your shirt* hanging out & as much cuff exposure as possible. I know, Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen springs to mind, but with a No.1 crop no one's gonna start on you.
*avoid pastel colours obviously, that was ten years ago.
Good luck!

This is a beautiful thread!

Seeing all the "oldies" miss the point so badly is a joy to behold:eek:

I bought a customised (graffed up) suit jacket from ken high street in the end which is probably more punk than Don Jonson lol.

As a dyed in the wool oldie I agree with many of the comments on this subject.

I have to admit, I did it in the 80s when I was a teenager, when I see the pictures I just wish that someone had tapped me on the shoulder and said uh uh.

I think the long and short of it is that whilst you are young you think that wearing jackets with jeans is great, and who am I to say different, if the girlies love it then do it. But mark my words, when you get a little older, perhaps a little more wealthy, you'll cringe at the thought of wearing this combination, especially when you start to shop at the higher end of the market, and appreciate how good/smart blazers and decent suits look when worn as intended.

It is also odd as the younger people these days seem quite happy to spend a fortune on current fashion, £100s on trainers. The sort of money people spend on sports/leisure wear, but they will skimp on the price of a good suit.

A decent suit looks 1000s of times better than a cheap one, perhaps that's why I would only wear one with a shirt and tie.

Superphil I wear suits most days of the week for work (and expensive well made ones, Cerruti 1881, Roberto Cavelli and Hugo Boss to name but a few). Te suit jacket I wear with ripped jeans is a tagged (graffiti) up number and bares no resembelance ato a smart outfit.

I think you have missed the point.

For the kids.

I think it's cool, I intend to get an old suit jacket from somewhere and continue to look dapper. Though I would not wear it with a shirt which had chevrons. :)

I wore it on friday, and all the birds I was with kept sating how much they liked it. Then my brother who originally slated me for wearing it ended the night by asking me to get him one for Xmas.

point proven I believe

exactly ! I think many are mocking this look basing it on some thespain 80's idea. the modern look of scruffy jacket and jeans is not supposed to be smart in apperance at all, it is almost grungy if u like.

well, while the rest of you fail to pull this weekend, me n Jonnyboylennon will clear up - More for us eh JBL !!!!

Advice from the 80's. Don't ever, ever, push the jacket sleeves up around the elbows.

Or wear it with a striped T-shirt unless you want to look like Kim Wilde.

Oh dear, I used to do my best Crockett impression from Miami Vice like that
