I was about to post on this but was trying to find an online source for it.

BBC R 5 live are reporting that Sturrock has quit Plymouth and that Southampton have a press conference coming up.

But as they said don't read anything into that.

Is there much truth in this?

It would be a real hammer blow I'd have thought, their fans worship the bloke. I'm a bit surprised he's considering Southampton, even though they're a Premiership club, Plymouth should be in the 1st Division next season and are potentially every bit as big as the Saints in the long term at least.

Sturrock Resigns

By Nick Illingsworth
Date: 3/3/2004

Its understood that Puaul sturrock has resigned as manager of Plymouth Argyle and according to the Pilgrims Vice Chairman is in talks with Saints.

Whilst its no means all signed and sealed at this moment in time the fact that paul Sturrock has reportably resigned from his post at Plymouth surely sets the stall out to the final outcome of his talks with Saints.
Suddenly Sturrock has come to the fore as weeks of wheeler dealing suddenly saw Glenn Hoddle issue a surprise statement, perhaps hindsight shows that Hoddle already knew he was not destined to return to Southampton and was jumping before he was pushed so to speak.

Paul Sturrock has seemingly burned his bridges at Plymouth so it would be a big surprise if he did not join Saints.

Now all has come to light you can expect a press announcement of the deal today (Weds) followed by a full blown press conference tomorrow.

Argyle are going to be gutted.

I still hope they go up, as if they and Danny Wilson's lot do it, it means that miserable cheating QPR won't, at least not automatically.

Strange goings on at Plymouth .... press release says John McNulty their Chief Exec is leaving on Friday and will NOT be replaced ... but no mention from their end of Sturrock .... yet!

Could be a risky move for Southampton. Sturrock suffered heart problems when managing St Johnstone where he made a real balls up of things. Granted he has done well at Plymouth, but what happens in the pressure cooker of the premiership is another thing.
Seems that the Saints are more jinxed with managers than we are!

Hoddle turning down jobs has not been good news for div 2 clubs this year.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
The 'Lugster' has been the front runner for this job for a long time, in fact I am led to believe he was Gordon Strachan's personal recomendation.

Expect a rapid rise in the Saints fortune as luggy is a f***ing legend !

And now on the Plymouth site. If he goes wonder if they will try and nab Leroy Rosenior who has done a great job at nearby Torquay. Kinda hoping Torquay come up, (and if we should fail in the play offs :nono: ) a nice weekend away in Devon next season, where we would out number their supporters. :p

I *knew* you'd say something about Torquay regarding this Tim :lolol:

Too true though, although if Plymouth go up they may look further afield!

Well I suppose they may wait until the end of the season and let the assistant take charge until then.

:p you'd like Torquay its nice plenty of places for :drink: and they have sand on the beach

Getting predictable
