My son is in his final year at Warwick Uni and has struggled financially all the way through, however if your parents household income is less than 50k a year you could be entitled to a grant. This is worked out on a sliding scale from 50k-25k, under 25k you are entitled to a full grant of £3000. Phone student loans for more info they are really helpful.

Yep, or do as many of my mates at uni have done if you have divorced parents... say you live with the poorer parent, despite the fact that their dads earn 6 figures plus and own 4 or 5 houses and f*** the system over by getting the £3000 grants every year. Not a rant at you Cornish, just really does take the biscuit.

Agree 100%, My son is at Uni with Kids from private School backgrounds with parents who are minted but divorced! He gets really pissed off at how unfair the system is and how people play it. I retired last year so my household income dropped, that is how I know about grants.

I found the best way to pick your college at York was to have a brother that had already been there and go for the family tradition angle
I'm pretty sure it wasn't first come, first served though.

its not like that anymore, they do the applications in 2 waves, 1st wave before A level results, meaning that all of the deferred and international students get first pick, and then the 2nd wave comes after A level results, meaning that all that is left is the expensive/shit accommodation.

if you know it, i am in 'cell block C' ;) (which is now catered, and in the same price bracket as ensuite james college )

All the cool kids were in James College

I've seen pictures of some of the accommodation on the new campus and suddenly James College seems a bit dated. Cell Block C though, I feel your pain.
