Murdoch got Franchise to about 10th last year on a zero budget. Unfortunately now all his players are leaving, which is like having less than a zero budget.

He is a good manager though, of that I am sure.

McGhee needs a bit of money to get players with. Millwall and Reading did well with him because they gave him money. Leicester gave him none and he failed. Wolves gave him loads, and he failed. Murdoch is the better man for the BHA job.

Did McGhee spend much at Reading then? I seem to think you were a piss poor Div 2 team with no money and a poor stadium at the time. It was pre-Madjeski days.

Obviously I'm telling you stuff you already know Wilts, but please tell me what money he did spend, because I don't remember.

As for his time at Millwall, they have been flat broke for years. Cash signings don't happen. Players have come through the ranks, or been picked up on frees from Prem clubs. Add in a couple of Loans like Dublin, and I don't see that he's had much to spend.

I hope it is McGhee. Not only will he be a good manager, but it will piss off both Palarse (due to being ex Millwall) and Reading (even though you've got a better manager in Coppout).

It wasn't pre-Madejski days. Mr Mad took over in 1990. We bought plenty of players under McGhee, totally around £2m I reckon, to get us from Div 2 to Div 1 playoffs.

At Millwall, they spent a fair bit in Div 2, and just less in Div 1. McGhee, in both scenarios, wanted to leave as the transfer kitty for Div 1 was pretty minimal compared with the larger package in Div 2.

So at Div 2 level, McGhee is quality, but in Div 1 he has only made the playoffs (Millwall) once. With Reading we had to rely on the partnership of two player-managers (Quinn and Gooding) to get us there. Quite a remarkable feat, considering!
