does anyone know any effective means to remedying stress?

I have been feeling consistently stressed since last Sunday, due to a variety of things on my mind and deadlines to adhere to.

Problem is, the feeling that this "stress" is giving me is seriously affecting my ability to work, as I feel under constant pressure and am struggling to concentrate due to strong headaches.

I just keep feeling faint and breathless and I'm just worried that somethings gonna give soon, so to speak.

Apologies for posting this on NSC but I didn't want to waste a doctors time just yet, especially as there is probably nothing they could do.

I suppose it's quite a personal thing, the question you should be asking yourself is 'what makes me relaxed', work out what does that and use it to your advantage. There must be stuff about this on the interweb. If you think you might be on the verge of panick attacks it might be worth seeing the doctor, you could probably blag some valium.

Deep breathing exercises.

Allocate a time for complete breaks from the stress, for meditation - and a time for the stress to 'bring it on'!

Lavender baths, and lavender scent, in your house and at the office.

Soothing music. At this time, stress is not what you want to listen to as well as go through.

Allow moments for reasoning, and make re-assessments for the value of what you are trying to, or getting done - and realise it's not worth getting physically sick about. This is just a placement in your head that you allocate - realising that worry will not help get the jobs done any better, then you might also find you enjoy the challenges more.

Think happy thoughts, watch and listen to comedy that you like, in your spare time.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
Deep breaths and composed imagination, i was always told by a clinical psychologist in the past 6 months to cool my paranoia. She suggested i picture myself relaxing in an insectless field with spring arising and all petals, sepals and stems in soft choral union, but never in screaming arousal. I couldn't think like that, but the breathing worked rather well. Eyes wide shut. In my head, though, i was more centaur with sexual lasso-ers at the fence with twinkling eyes and throbbing groins. At times i was horse's head, man's body. A centaur's runt or accident. Or one bunged by Midas.

Just needs to be a place that fails to add more weight than your calm can take.

What you need is alcohol and lots of it! It wont make your problems go away but you'll feel too hungover in the morning to care! :drink:

brighton, actually
sseems too much work is causing the stress- talk to the boss, saying the deadlines/workloads are too much, how can it be made easier? (more staff? better training? they have an obligation to ensure your wellbeing / safety, at work..)

if he/she doesnt do anything to help, then ask yourself if you really want to be in an unsupportive environment.

also try to avoid relying on alcohol as an escape, as that will only make things worse.

Thanks.

It's actually University work, mixed with the fact I simply don't have the time to do it, I try and do it in the time left but feel more tired and therefore can't get up early the next day to do it.

Plus having this omnipresent headache is making doing any real work almost impossible.

I don't really know what to do to remedy it.

Have you tried turning to organic cider?

Dr Bunsen says "It may be something to do with your diet. A friend of mine was always lethargic and had a knock on effect of making her depressed/tired/weak etc. You should consult your GP and talk about it. Rose, was allergic to dairy products, although she had been eating them her whole life, she didn't realise. She felt as right as rain after she altered her habits"

Your first course of action IS to see a doctor - you're not wasting their time. Get a check-up, so you have one less thing to worry about. For your Uni work, talk to your tutor and other students, get a plan of action, break it down into achievable chunks. Don't think you have to do everything alone. If you simply can't do the work, get organised so you don't get in this situation again. Taking control and actually doing something positive is a great de-stresser.

Really? You fooled me as your superior skills in these subjects shine through in just a few words.

:D I guess one would work their way up to the broadsheet.

I am sure this is just a temporary blip. Mr Badger often posts in the Queen's English, unless of course he is talking about the fabled Turienzo, in which case the language is not for pre-watershed.
