Not a big fan, I too much prefer Fairport Convention with Sandy Denny

Tragically died after falling down stairs.
She cut albums previous to Fairport Convention, solo and with The Strawbs.
A couple of stints with Fairport, and another band 'Fotheringay' for one LP, she made some more solo albums - and of course that famous guest performance recorded with Led Zeppelin on 'The Battle Of Evermore'.

Special high moments in her career are probably with The Strawbs on "I'm On My Way", and Fairport Convention "Fotheringay" and "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" for anyone who wants to find out about her.

They had (amazingly) 2 hit records.
The one you refer to was 'Gaudete', the other one was 'All Around My Hat'

Try humming 'Remember You're a Womble' next time you hear 'All Around My Hat'.

You will never hear it any other way again...

Their version of Gaudete is the most pretentious and ridiculous recording in all of history.

prefer Steely Dan, my guilty pleasure.

Why guilty, they are a great band? But apart from a vague name similarity bear no resemblance to Steeleye Span, but you knew that :lolol:

I LOVE Steely Dan! I was obsessed with the band in my teens.

'Haitian Divorce' is my favourite. That wah-wah guitar!
