I just dug this up:

"For example you can see R2D2 and C3PO as a heiroglyphic form in Indiana Jone: Raiders of the Lost Ark when he goes down to the Well of Souls.

Also the name of the Club in the beginning of the Temple of Doom is called Obi-Wan. All just easter eggs."

RIGHT now I gotta watch these two films (and just missed them on TV too)

I was always subtitled 'A New Hope'. I have a early 80's release that says it. Its just now there are 5 star wars films, hence they are know by the individual titles.

And Indiana Jones was named after George Lucas's dog.

Okay, I'll grant you that if you have a copy of the original. But it wasn't called episode IV though was it? Or even episode I in the original version right?

I thought Indiana Jones was named after the family dog (within the film). Thats what his dad says in The Temple of Doom.

"Whatsh all this 'Indi', Junior" ?
"I thought I was called Indiana, y'know, after the state"
"The shtate ? Junior, the DOG wash called Indi".

Or something like that anyway.

Can I just say, I think this must be the most anal thread I have ever partaken in. Certainly since that Kev the Ape one about wrestling anyway.

I seriously doubt that Lucas (despite what he might say now) even intended to do a sequel let alone prequels when the first film came out. The first film is almost completely self contained with almost no loose ends, even Darth appears to be dead at the end of the first film (he's tie fighter gets blasted and spins out of control). If he had always intended to make Empire Strikes Back he would have ended A New Hope on a cliffhanger. And if he'd always intended to make a prequel he wouldn't have waited so long to get on it.

Nothing wrong with it at all Matt.
Its just that discussing whether the wookie was based on George Lucas's dog, or named after him, plus god knows how many posts about whether Star Wars was known as A New Hope before the new Episodes came on the scene...well, its anal geekness of the highest order, innit.

And yes I've added my fair share. And yes I wouldn't have it any other way. Top thread.

It was undoubtably Lucas' idea to make the sequels, but only after the release of the original film and the boat load of money it made for him.

he wanted to make Episode I first but the technology (so he says) was not there at the time plus its a boring film to open with, Episode IV has great battle sequences (and a better story) so seemed the right choice to make. He always planned on making Empire/Return but only if Episode IV actually did anygood. It was'nt until after Return that he though he would make the prequels further down the line. Infact he helped out on the Indiana Jones films and again he says they helped him learn better for making the prequels. It was then just a waiting game until the tech was good enough as it is now.

Thats pretty much summed up from various interviews/documentarys i've seen of him, where he also mentions that Wookiee was his DOG :D

Just seen ROTJ - its true, the ghost of Anakin at the end is now Hayden Christensen, ties up nicely with the new films.
