When the film originally came out it was called Star Wars. No references to a new hope or anything else. It appears that at the time of either the new trilogy, the re-release of the original films or similar the title has been changed.

Never mind that, does anyone remember this in the film?

Im gonna buy it but a bit worried about Lucas wankisms. Apparantly Gungans feature at the end of Jedi, and the ghost of anakin (also at the end of jedi) is gayden christensen.

My favourite films EVER - but Lucas has done his very best to ruin them.

If Lucas has added a comedy "BONK" to the storm trooper head bumping, I will be deeply saddened. Lucas and subtlety? Brick and window?

Lucas is a cock!

looking over old posters they do just say Star Wars but the others are all called Empire/Return Of etc. It has always been called A New Hope since the moment Lucas had finished writing it, maybe just called it 'Star Wars' for the first film and its initial release was to get people to know the film and then follow ups. Releasing a film entitled Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope would've been shite, or even A New Hope would'nt appeal to the masses. Star Wars at that time would've sounded bloody cool.

The original book was titled "Star Wars - Episode 4 - A New Hope".

CAFC Matt - the opening line of the film - "A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away......."

When it was first released it was refered to as Star Wars but the bit that scrolls up at the begginging calls it episode IV A new hope. That hasn't changed, it was however marketed as Star wars when it was released but the name of the film hasn't changed its just be re-marketed as a new hope.

I can remember as a seven year old going to see it at the cinema and thinking it was the coolest thing there ever was or would be.

I with you on this one. When the original film got it's first theatrical release it was simply called "Star Wars" and there was no "Episode IV: A New Hope" crap. All that was added to the special edition that came out a few years ago around the same time as the release of episode I.
