Didn’t need to. Geography and football are two of my specialities. I knew Elland Road was built outside the urban area, recognised the main stand, and the disproportionately small ‘away’ end.

Their solution was to bring the town nearer.....Been there for vs us (when thy had the Greek Welshman) and vs Blackburn (random football tourism on a weekend at my mate's across the Mersey).

As the old fellah said on more than 20 occasions during on of the games, 'Come on Rovers, come on'

Judging by the lack of floodlights and the absence of traffic I would say that's an early 1950s photo of Elland Foad. The small stand is the Scratching Shed End which was never an away end. When segregation reared it's ugly head away fans were allocated one of the corners I think
