Today was atrocious again for the umpteenth time this season. However I still think we could be a half decent side with a few key signings in certain positions. We have been hit by injuries to our best players - Hammond and Lynch and Dean was playing Mayo and El Abd out of position today so the result was not a great surprise. The optimum squad size is about 25 for us given our financial constraints. This would be my side for next season to push for the play offs.

New Goalkeeper - Scott Flinders on a season long loan would be perfect.

RB - Andy Whing - He loves us, we badly need a right back like him - go get him Dean.

CB - Joel Lynch

CB - Guy Butters / Adam Hinsh

LB - Sam Rents

RM - Dean Cox

CM - Alexis Bertin

CM - Dean Hammond

LM - New Signing

CF - Alex Revell

CF - New signing - a Leon Best would be great but if not someone like

Back ups / Reserves

Paul Reid
Tommy Elphick
Big Bas
Joe Gatting
Scott Chamberlain
Tommy Fraser
Nathan Elder
Michel Kuipers - if he doesn't mind playing second fiddle.
Charlie - week to week contract until fit
One of John Sullivan / Richard Martin
Alex Frutos - give him until Xmas
Jake - ditto
New Attacking Centre Midfielder

The chances of Bertin staying are slim to none at present. Hopefully, he can stay, but I wouldn't count on it. I'm quite looking forward to the midfield pairing of Reid and Hammond. I think that could work quite well.

BTW Play-offs? Doubt it.

With the right confidence it should really be Frutos in that left midfield role - He was excellent in the championship and really should be tearing league one defences apart.

C'mon Fruity - lets see that magic again

Nice to see some optimism for a change but with that squad I can't see us finishing any better off than we have this season, unless your mystery centre midfield signing is Steven Gerrard of course.

For now I think the most important things for Wilkins to do is to get Whing and give Bertin another contract. Then look to bring in a centre forward.

I really hope he can get out of the slump he's been in and show us what he can do next season.

As his best, he could be a really contributory factor towards any play-off run.

Is that Hunt left midfield the chap that tried to turn Petr Cech's head into a scrambled egg? If so couldn't imagine him wanting to leave the plastics, he's scored a few for them this season.

Unless we find some serious bargains in the summer I doubt we will get aobve halfway this season, we really need 5 or 6 in the summer and the money simply isn't going to be there to get them.

yes....whilst waiting to go on the phone in I was chatting to a BBC lancashire bloke who told me that he knew of 4 Northern teams who had him watched and were all impressed

I think we will lose:

Cox
Lynch
Bertin
Flinders ( although he technically isnt ours)

At least we'll still have Gary Hart and Kerry Mayo

Relegation struggle next season then!

That's slightly too pessimistic even for me!

I can see us losing all four if we are unlucky, but if we do, surely we'd get transfer funds from selling Cox and Lynch. Basically, Wilkins needs a good pre-season in the transfer market...

What? :lolol:
