Does anyone know if Specsavers put your new glasses together on site for you like Vision Express? I need new glasses but don't want to wait a week for them.

Ta muchly.

If your prescritiption is not too complicated and they have your lenses in stock then they'll often do it same day, however, if you want reaction lenses, varifocals etc, then they all take a little longer.

Having spent a fortune on designer glasses in the past (usually being caught out thinking the price on the frame is the total price and being stung for expensive lenses and all the other coatings gubbins) I just want bog standard el cheapo specs this time.

I don't want anything fancy so I might just see if Specsavers can cobble me something together. They seem a bit cheaper than Vision Express.

Specsavers, in my experience, are quite a bit cheaper, in fact a lot cheaper, than Vision Express, and they have some decent frames too.

That's all good advice thanks Superphil. My impatience in the past has always led me to Vision Express but for the first time ever I'm researching the different options to save money. If the prices are similar the time saving will always win with me but everyone I know seems to rate Specsavers.

Not all Specsavers glaze on site as some outsource if the practice is too small for a lab. Brighton do as do Worthing not sure about the Hove branch. may be best to phone before you go.

This is for bog standard lenses and any Bificals/Vari's or AR coats will add to delivery times.

I've had a couple of pairs from specsavers, both shoddy quality and poorly fitting with slow, rude, unhelpful service to boot. Vision express all the way my friend.

The best thing Specsavers ever did for me was drive me to get my eyes lasered!

I spent a good 20 minutes trying to pick out a pair that i found reasonably inoffensive amongst all the designer frames which suspiciously all looked the same, only to be told you can't have those as they would slip down your nose as the arms don't bend down behind your ears :tantrum:

The next day i booked myself in to Optimax

So, since the operation you have changed your name to Magoo ?.. obviously a success !.. I hope they talked to you about Presbyopia and told you that you will need specs later on in life ?

If an opticians has a lab on site they should definitely be able to do you a pair in 24 hours. From start to finish it only takes about 3 minutes to make a pair of specs.

By the way, I used to work in specsavers making the glasses and just because they are cheaper dont assume you are getting a lesser service. When I was there in the early 90's all the machines were top of the range.

Yes, they make you fully aware of all the facts.

No glasses, no contacts... :clap2:

Thanks for your thoughts and advice guys. I got a quick appointment at V E and found some nice cheap frames so stuck with them even though they may have been cheaper at S S.

Glasses were ready after an hour and because my prescription isn't too different to before they patched up my old glasses so I can use them as a spare pair if I need to. I was quite happy with that. Spent the day in Brighton and made the most of it with my family too which was lovely.
