He started slowly,Gus it would have seemed did not even look as if he was ever going to play him..

Looking at the stats in the Blackpool program he only started three matches and came on as a sub four other times before the home game versus Nottingham on December 15th and since then has only missed a single game (Feb 12th, Blackburn, named as a sub but not brought on).

The FACT some convienently forget and assume Dave has been pooh hot since day one.

Dave's first assessable stat (goal/assist) didn't come till the Brum game, mid Jan.

Gus said he wasn't match fit. Don't think he ever questioned his quality.

Look back at threads and you'll see me and a few others mentioned how class he looked in his first games, just a bit slow and lacking match fitness. Technique was there regardless.

I'm sure there is.
My point is a reaction to an awful lot of posters on this thread who see it as an opportunity to stick the boot into the OP.
Without actually knowing/remembering Dave wasn't always the legend he currently is.

He massively wrote him off, way way way way WAY too early. He has a long history of doing this and being made to look a retard time and again. He deserves the shit he has gotten with this thread being bounced and he has largely taken it with good humour.

I don't think anyone is suggesting he was a game-changer in his first few months with us. The point is that the OP was so quick to dismiss David Lopez as useless so early on in his Albion career.

When I leave the PC on and walk away, I'm going to randomly leave it on your post.

As Mellotron has said, if the OP was just saying 'mmm, I'm not convinced, jury is still out', he wouldn't have got the pasting. It's the fact that he complete wrote Dave off before he'd had a chance to get fit or adapt. And he has history. At least we're all on the Dave bus now.

Over there
Spanish Dave - what exactly does he do?!

Is he quick? No.
Can he shoot? No.
Is he skillful? No.
Have we seen anything to suggest he's a dead ball specialist? No.
Is he physical?
Is there an end product? No.

Deadline day panic buy, and yet another waste of space in an overcrowded group of mediocre midfield players. His best spell in La Liga? The best part of 5 years ago now for a mid table side, before he soon became a fringe player.

Friday August 31st, the day Poyet killed our season, dismantling a midfield that was looking good up until that point. :nono:

For those saying people are being way too harsh and unfair on the O.P, lets just recap on what was said again.
Now, who was harsh and unfair?

I assume the only reason this thread is not in the gold section is that the controller is waiting for SD to score the winning goal in the play-off final first?

Clearly I get all of that, I too have enjoyed a few little digs, like the rest of us.
You have to be very 'special' to write off that pedigree after a few games.

My point is history is now beginning to be completely rewritten.
Recently i mentioned Dave's slow start and was set upon by 2 warriors. (I've played my dramatic license card, there)
That is until they were presented with the facts, from which point I've not heard from them since.

Extending the point further, with a little end of season reflection.
You've got to feel sorry for CMS, Barnes, Hoskins, and Dobbie.

Other than the introduction of Upson, this is pretty much the same team that was frustratingly woeful through Oct-Dec.

Obviously the chicken and egg argument is 'is the team better because of Ulloa, or has he just got lucky with his arrival time'.
Personal I think Len's greatness has improved everyone, but there is a part of me that wonders how he would have coped from August.
I not buying the 'we would have gone straight up' fantasy because the team wasn't ready for him.

Dave's form at the time being a good example.

Define woeful. We didn't lose a game in November and have only lost 9 all season. The draws were frustrating because you could see the team had skills and talent but it wasn't quite gelling or happening. Ulloa & Upson did complete the jigsaw.

I think the reason for our upturn in form is belief partly, I don't know about the players but with Leo and Upson in the team before a game I feel much more positive than I do when CMS was starting up front, and thats no offence to him because I will never put a player down who works as hard as he does but for me one of the biggest things in football is belief and if I feel more belief when Leo is in the team I'm sure the players around him do too.

Anyway back on thread subject, Spanish Dave? What DOES he do?

Agreed. We haven't been "woeful" at any point this season. We were alright at points, and we've been ****ing brilliant at others.

Worse than frustrating.

The facts say:-
October - no wins.
November - 3 wins but against relegation teams.
December - No wins, inc Palace.

My memory of that time, is a team who's early season promise was crumbling at Watford, just clung onto at Millwall, before it disappeared completely.

Yes the draws were frustrating but I seem to remember as a team we played pretty badly and very defensive.

Would Ulloa have made that much of a difference?
Maybe, one goal and all that.

Did the team play anything like they are now, back then?
Not even close.

March's Albion would have ripped December's Albion apart.

That's how I define our woeful run through the back end of last year.

Obviously without the enjoyment of threads like this, and all the other recent bounced stuff (for which I've been surprisingly spared humiliation (but it's only a matter of time)) The Albion would be nowhere as brilliant, fun, frustrating & woeful, to watch.

I'm not complaining but back to my original point.
I get grumpy when history gets rewritten to suit the current atmosphere.

If we (Dave, Will, KLL, AB, et al) were as good ALL season as people are starting to proclaim, we would have smashed this division.
If they were as bad as they have been for parts of the season, we would have been relegated.
