So the wider spanish economic disaster is affecting players wages? I am surprised that there are not more heading to Germany, France and here then.
I'd imagine that having a Spanish speaking manager (and assistant) must help with negotiations.......although that is tempered a bit by having Aspinal as a scout (not sure what language he speaks).

France is in a terrible state with massive levels of tax on high earners. Other than money doped PSG, can't see players moving there.

I wonder if we're in danger of having a split in the squad? I recall this being mentioned somewhere before. It would be very easy for the second teamers and British players to resent the Spaniards.

Dicker and CMS were asked a similar thing to this on the podcast but they seemed very positive about the Spanish players and said their English is improving daily. Apparently if they speak Spanish in the dressing room, Casper tells them to shut up and speak English!

Was listening to Orlandi on the Spanish radio and he was saying his English was getting worse..... must happen in other teams too... the Spanish players seem well integrated though...

Fascinating article.

Orlandi is quite the thinker eh? Not that the rest of them aren't as well, of course. Always says something interesting - he'll make a good sports presenter or journo one day. Or manager.

God, I LOVE our Spanish contingent - every one of them makes me so damn proud to be a Brighton fan: they're so good to watch and seem such nice amigos too. Great days.

A million percent THIS. The way each has come along and bought into what we're doing is something to be really proud of. Yes, even Vicente.

And there's just something about Calde that makes my heart swell. I can't help but feel that without him leading the way the others wouldn't have worked out in the same way at all. And his football continues to improve. I remember having a (very) brief chat with him in The Sportsman a couple of years ago and he won me over there and then. Just a brilliant bloke and great ambassador for the club.
