I am now over the half way stage in my cancer treatment and, with the early news from my oncologist looking positive, we are thinking about a trip abroad for some R&R before the end of the year. We are in our early 60's and although we have travelled a fair bit over recent years, I'll still be less than 100% fit for a while so we want to find somewhere that will be warm in late Sept / early Oct, not too far to fly (say 2 hours), luxury (4*/5* hotel), in general just a really nice place for 10 or so nights to chill and continue the recovery. We are frequent visitors to the Canaries but don't want to go that far this time so I was thinking of getting flights to Alicante or similar and finding somewhere on the money close by. That is not a area we are familiar with but I just know NSC will have a load of recommendations and good advice!

Climate wise, you may find Andalucia a good option, and there’s so much to see and do. Maybe use Seville as a base and with options to visit places like Granada too?

My favourite big city is probably Valencia, I’m sure Javea Seagull can give you better advice on that area than me!

Good luck with your ongoing treatment!

First, best of luck with your treatment.

Are you looking more for a sit by a pool / beach sort of holiday or more of a explore some historic places kind of holiday?

Depending on your budget for a 5 star hotel I’d recommend the Ikos Andalusia at that time of year. Flight into Malaga and 45min transfer. If you book direct with the hotel they get you a private car, or can sometimes get good deals booked as a BA holiday including a hire car which is cheaper than a taxi

Thanks. Going to check that out.

Going to throw in a couple of other places here.
Morrocco. I've been to Marrakesh a few times, staying in the Riu Tikida Palmeraie. Absolutly nothing to do but relax by the pool with free drinks. But look for a bargain on Tui.
Tunisia. I've just returned from a week there, again a last minute bargain.

Andalusia has so much to offer, but be warned it's a big place. Sevilla and Granada are a long way apart, unless you're planning a big road trip holiday, I'd recommend choosing either the western side or the eastern side. Both are fantastic in their own ways.

Its also the hottest place in Europe, even in late autumn you're looking at high 20s

Malaga is an amazing place and far from just a party town. Loads of cultural things to do with great restaurants, beaches and shops. It's a very chilled out vibe and is a mixing pot for people from all over the globe. There's a city airport and as a place it is catered to tourists whilst still being a somewhat authentically Spanish. It's probably perfect for you.

I have a place between Málaga and Marbella, and came back from there last night as it goes. As has been said, Andalucía is huge - Seville and Granada are a long long way from each other. The good thing about Málaga, apart from it being a great city itself, is the train station can get you to various other cities easily. Córdoba is well worth a visit, though it's very hot there. All depends what you're after really.

Estepona is also really nice, Ronda is worth a visit, and Seville is one of my favourite Spanish cities. Granada has La Alhambra too

Seville is way beyond magnificent.
Try to see The Mesquita in Cordoba whilst you are there. It is one of Europe's truly great architectural achievements. Granada is a bit far from Seville, so I wouldn't recommend a day trip to The Alhambra.
