Strange thing about Skynrd and Neil Young, as he championed the cause of LS's fave Southern rock band The Allman Brothers before they were even named that (they were called 'The Hour Glass', and NY wrote the liner notes on one of their LPs).

Would heartily agree with the earlier commendation for The Outlaws - generally overlooked these days but their debut album was a total classic: great tunes, fantastic harmonies and some quite ear-boggling guitar playing. Some great vids on YouTube - it's well worth checking out Green Grass and High Tides, very much their equivalent of Freebird.

The Eagles' On The Border album is well worth a listen. Others worth hunting down include the Flying Burrito Brothers, the Doobie Brothers (bit more soul/blues/rock) and Little Feat.
