As I said on a previous thread, Southampton are an irritating club with a higher proportion of numpty of supporters but The Hammers staying down will be far, far funnier. Also, Adkins is a bit of a cock with his David Brent style clichés, incredible smugness and punchable face but I would have him over Allardyce any day of the week.

For me, West Ham just have to stay down and all being well, mess it up next season as well...

As others had said would be funny if Southampton slipped up on there last game.

Should Southampton f*** it up, it'll be particularly heartwarming to know that our feeble collapse at West Ham was instrumental in depriving them of a place in the top 2.

Annoyingly, both clubs will probably get promoted.

I can't see whichever club comes third actually getting promoted. It's clubs like Blackpool who'll succeed in the play-offs, because they have the momentum and optimism that's needed in the play-offs.

A club that has just missed out - especially if they've been in the top two for all but the last couple of weeks of the season - is generally so demoralised that they're in no psychological state to do well in the the play-offs. It's not the coming third that counts here - it's the "being in contention all season and then not going up" and the "coming streets ahead of the team in 4th place" that has the demoralising effect. Plus the equal measures of disappointment and expectation from their supporters does them no favours - especially if they have the type of supporters who consider promotion a divine right rather than an unexpected bonus.

And besides, Blackpool have Dobbie, who's going for his third consecutive Championship play-off promotion.

I would love it if west ham had serious crowd trouble, leading to a 40 minute delay. Southampton lose by one goal and for 40 minutes are in a state of nerves while west ham try to extend their 1 goal lead and overcome the goal difference.

The tension gets too much and southampton fans boil over and cause trouble.

In a quickly convened disciplinary hearing they are both deducted 12 points for their crowd troubles, pushing them down into the play offs. Blackpool get the last automatic promotion spot. Birmingham and Cardiff then beat Saints and Hammers in the play offs.

The failure to get promotion hits both teams hard, their top talents abandon ship, their backers withdraw their support and the clubs start next season on the back foot. No top stars, with little financial backing for replacements, they become average teams. Frustrated the fans stay away and then the teams find themselves fighting relegation next year, with both managers not lasting past christmas. 12 easy points for Brighton.

Goes without saying that it's not likely to happen, though. But it's what I would like.

Southampton will absolutely spank Coventry though...even if they were a bag of nerves on the day, there is not a cat's chance in hell of crappy Coventry getting anything out of that game.

West Ham may as well start selling play off tickets now.

I'm not convinced Coventry will roll over as much as people think. I have no foundation for that statement, just a hunch that they might be party poopers. Wet Sham will probably fail to beat Hull anyway, thus securing top flight footy for SCC, regardless of their result
Either way, all I care about is the mighty Albion and a play off challenge next season

Saints have generally been good at home, apart from a couple of games.

If it was at Coventry, my money would be on West Ham to nick the promotion place, but even Adkins himself couldn't have asked for a better finish than a home game against Pompey's relegation chums.

Southampton i grew a hatred for last year, but that has died to an extent as there are all of a sudden bigger goons to have bad feeling for, and included in that bunch of big money turds are the Shammers. Their ugly football deserves to be defeated and kept down another year at least, tossing them into greater financial turmoil. The Financial Fair Play thing is meant as an antidote to clubs like West Ham and their Redknapp days. They shouldn't be able to buy their way out of trouble and i'd be happy for them to fail a little and lose their higher earners to make ends meet like the rest of us.

At least West Ham's owners voted FOR the FFP regulations, which is more than can be said for Southampton.

West Ham may as well start selling play off tickets now.

I was amazed to hear an WHU ad on the radio throughout yesterday, trying to sell tickets for Saturday. They are offering priority for the play-off tickets as an inducement. If they can't sell that game out without advertising and inducements, that's a pretty sorry situation.

.

Your maths is wrong. If Southampton LOSE, then goal difference doesn't come into it.

Would we have sold 37,000+ tickets in the same situation? That's more than our record attendance EVER.

The capacity is actually 35,000, of which 10% is for away fans. So the question should have been, would we sell 31,500 tickets for a match which could see us win automatic promoted to the Premiership?

I think we possibly would yes.

It would be nice to call them SCC2nd. Which is where they like to finish.

There is no way Hull are going to shift 3,500 tickets, would be surprised if they sell the regular away allocation of around 2,000.

PERSONALLY, I think we would struggle to get 33,000 through the Amex doors.
