The Lions are BANG up for this one after 4 minutes, 3-0 up, a punch up and a sin bin for the Springboks

Why wasn't the SA player red carded for gouging ?

Should have been, it wasn't just a quick one, he left his finger in for a few seconds, pretty disgraceful...

Lions win the first real scrum test too which could be crucial after last week.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
22 mins: Nervy times for the Lions as wing Bryan Habana reads an attack to intercept a Brian O'Driscoll pass. Luckily for the visitors, Habana is quickly wrapped up. "Bread Of Heaven" is being sung with gusto.

:yahoo:

The BBC text commentator knows what he enjoys about rugby ...

5 mins: The Lions break in midfield but a rampaging Gethin Jenkins spills the ball in the tackle. Meanwhile, Brian O'Driscoll and Victor Matfield square up and about a dozen players get involved. Lovely bit of biff and it shows that this Lions side are up for the fight. Love it.

When ones initial disappointment subsides and one looks back on the game they should come to realise that they have possibly witnessed one of the great sporting spectacles of the last ten years. No quarter asked for and no quarter given in what was one of the most ferocious and intensely physical battles that rugby has thrown up in many a long year. Against anyone else in the rugby world the Lions would have held on and edged over the finishing line to tie the series but South Africa are not world champions for nothing.
It makes one really miss the likes of Ronaldo when you see real sportsmen playing the game at this level of physical commitment. I felt privileged to have witnessed that game this afternoon.

Some excellent bottling all round by the French referee. Well done to both sides for a fantastic and committed game of rugby though.

What a shame, next week could and should have been the decider, Lions were very unlucky with injuries in 2nd half. Ref bottled the Berger decision and SA should have played 78 mins with 14 men. Gouging is the worst thing you can do in rugby and you have to be a truly dirty bar steward to attempt it, I hope he is cited and gets the mandatory 6 month ban.

Also bottled the try decision. Blatantly didn't think it was a try, but (probably scared of the home crowd) asked for any reason why he COULDN'T award the try - clearly expecting the TMO to bail him out with evidence of going into touch.

Looked like a deer in headlights when the TMO came back saying there was no evidence to the contrary, and I have NEVER seen a ref spend a minute debating the decision from the TMO before giving the try. Absolute cack.

I was kept upto date with the scores, as one of the flats overlooking the County Ground had a makeshift scoreboard out of one of the windows!

So you're telling me 4 countrys can't beat one?

Penalty for offside - how harsh is that.
Christ, Glenn would have had us relegated by bonfire night if that was the case in football.
