That's a shed load of cash for a teenager with only one year to run on their contract.

I think who ever picked him up on a Bosman would have to pay close to that anyway due to the hype.

The Daily Mirror today have said Southampton are losing a million a month.

I'd like to know how they've managed that after pocketing the Walcott cash and the Rasiak cash. The Walcott deal initially was for £5 million rising to £12.5 million, but given that Sven played him for England they must have received the best part of £10 million already.

All this and they've got the capacity to bring in up to 30,000 fans, plus parachute payments. What the hell is going on at that club financially?

The wage bill must be huge with some of the players they have?

The fact that they are not going to get any more parachute money is probably the big issue.

Often if the relegated clubs do not go up in the first 2 years, it takes them a long time (Derby) or even worse for a few (Forest, Wednesday, Leeds).

I suspect the costs of the ground will still be draining resources, but the Walcott money is about 75% of a year's takings at the turnstile. How can you lose a million a month with a £10 million head start?

If they can't make it work with a new ground, a free-scoring successful team and a massive transfer surplus then what hope is there for the rest of us?

Its proof that even with a new ground you still need a decent team to fill it or people will stay away.

Not sure how the ground was funded. However I would guess there are still some high earners there from the Premiership and they probably paying high wages to the likes of Rasiak as they pressumed that investment would get them up this season.

The problem is it did not work, they get no parachute money and so times could be a tad harder for them.

The thing is they've been scoring goals for fun, so hardly unsuccessful.

They have been scoring, but they never really troubled the top 3 and just about got into the play offs, mainly due to Preston not winning.
