A pedant writes - surely the BBC wouldn't sack an employee on Christmas Day? Given that it is a bank holiday they're probably not obliged to turn up to work anyway.


It's not a bank holiday,it's public. There's a difference. Bank holidays are covered by statute, the banking and financial act 1972. Public holidays are covered by common law.

Maybe it appears nit picking but it does make a difference for parking charges etc
