Bertin was a disgrace today, did absolutely f*** all before quite rightly being subbed. At least you could see the others were trying to play well, even if they failed miserably, but he stood out for me.

Loft was pretty good at times (But has his bad moments), as did Elphick. Frutos needs to get his head up instead of running the ball out of play.

Wilkins apparently was fuming at half time - what an inspirational team talk that must have been.:dunce:

Well, this is mid-table mediocrity. It's what we've sort of dreamed of for the last half dozen seasons and every game from here on in is going to be more of the meaningless same. That's how life is.

Having said that, on today's performance both Loft and Mayo should be shown the door, testimonial year or no testimonial year. Just won't do. :nono:

Bring on the Summer clearout!

Erm, I think you're referring to mid table in the old 2nd Div, which I'd happily settle for.

Jeez! He's not STILL banging on about Gull's Eye is he?

I do not think that it was a case of banging on about Gulls Eye more showing that the people who were the very first to question Archer Bellotti and Stanley, before most of those involved in Falmer now, had stopped supporting the Albion regularly and asking why?

Fanzines were ALWAYS a young man's game.

And people develop other interests and at some point say fuckit I gave already. If the town really doesn't want a football team then it dies. Life goes on.

I have seen good Brighton displays and bad since my firsty game in 45/46 season and am still going so why are those who 10 years ago were dyed in the wood supporters not going now that is the point.

Because you could just decide to go/not go on the day and assumed the Goldstone would be there forever, same as the rest of us. It's been TEN YEARS just to try and get PERMISSION to build, let alone BUILD the f***ing stadium at Falmer, and people see the West Pier lying derelict for quarter of a century, likewise the station site, and people lose heart through the dumbest f***ing planning process of any country in the western world and they end up saying: build it/don't build it, let me know when I can cherrypick tickets. f***ing wears you down, has to be said, and mesrs Knight and Perry deserve every bit of glory and profit going for sticking to the task for umpteen f***ing stupid years of bullshit.

What, you mean like mid table in THE CHAMPIONSHIP? Yup, I'd settle for that also :shootself

Exactly, it's all relative. We looked bound for mid old Div 2 last season up to QPR game on Boxing Day and should not have come down so willingly.

Gatting was asked to lead the line for the best part of the second half of last season and yet is shown to be short even at this level - just one example of how we thought we could ride our luck with a cheap option.

Gifton was brought in far too late. Don't think I need go on to how Sky money earned this season would have made a decent investment in Jan window pay for itself over and over .

So NO, I'm not at all happy to settle for mid Div 3 this season against this background.

Zesh was the only choice for MOM. I can't remember a game where I never left my seat for the whole game.

I think it's the system. It just doesn't seem to be effective at Withdean and it doesn't seem to suit the squad, or at least the current, fit squad. What are you going to achieve by playing El Abd on the right side of a midfield diamond? Wendy should revert back to a 4-4-2 at home, we badly lack width.

As to whether people thought Loft was OK or not - and he was OK in patches - is almost a secondary consideration. It's when you compare him to Dean Hammond - whose role he was playing - that you come to realise he is hopelessly second best to the skipper.

Surely Loft was playing at the top of the diamond which has been Robinson or Ward's role.

If that's the case, it wasn't that evident. :(

Point is, I'm not reading too much into this game. Much as I applaud the idea of giving each of those lads a chance, we played with many second-choice players, with Wilkins asking them to step up to the plate. Not enough of them, in my opinion, did that satisfactorily.

Tomorrow I would expect to see Butters and Hammond back (unless the latter really is wiped out for the rest of the season). We can't afford another midfield display like we had yesterday. Irrespective of blooding new players, there is a possibility of it having the opposite effect by affecting confidence and morale.

Tom, you normally talk sense but yoour post above is ridiculous :nono:

I have never dreamt of stumbling around mid table in Div 2......is this the level we aspire to these days?

With this current, very young squad - yes.

This was never going to be a squad of consistency. It's a transition year where, rightly or wrongly, we have played a lot of first- and second-year pros. At times, it has worked well, at other - it's been dire. But the point is, for all the fact that most ARE still kids, they can compete in the third tier of English football.

Fair point, maybe it was a tad ridiculous, but mid-table was DK's stated aim at the start of the season, and it's what he's got. It's not pretty to watch but at least the threat of relegation is gone and we were never going to make the play-offs this season. So stumbling around mid-table in a stress-free sort of way is a refreshing sort of change, at least on one level. Wouldn't want to make a habit of it mind
