Wear what I can only describe as a light summer shoe. Currently a pair of vans, previously D.C but they seem to have stopped that particular line.

I hate the things but own two pairs of FlipFlops (Thongs over here) as it does get hot and they are preferable to my stinky feet after they have been in trainers for a prolonged period.

Is fine, only if complemented by the appropriate footwear.

My wife would agree with the OP's wife, and so do I.

But apart from anything else, if I wear sandals, which doesn't happen very often, it's because it is warm and I want my feet to be cool, so wearing socks would be a bit daft.

I know for a 100% fact that my partner would never walk out of the front door with me if I wore socks with sandals.
