The club seem even more amateur-ish than we do.

Newcastle have announced that they have not sacked Kevin Keegan and they want him to remain as manager.

Keegan's future has been the subject of widespread speculation after reports emerged on Tuesday that Keegan had left the club.

The rumours about Keegan's future saw fans stage angry protests outside St James' Park with supporters calling for the head of owner Mike Ashley and the club's board.

However, the club have now revealed that they have not dispensed with Keegan's services and that the 57-year-old remains part of their plans.

Meetings

The club statement on their official website read: "Newcastle United can confirm that meetings between members of the Board and manager Kevin Keegan were held both yesterday and today.

"Kevin has raised a number of issues and those have been discussed with him.

"The club wants to keep progressing with its long-term strategy and would like to stress that Kevin is extremely important, both now and in the future.

"Newcastle United values the effort and commitment shown by Kevin since his return to St. James' Park and wants him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager of the club.

"For the avoidance of doubt the club has not sacked Kevin Keegan as manager."

However, Keegan's future remains shrouded in doubt with the former England boss remaining silent on his position.

The hold-up / confusion and subsequent deafening silence from Keegan will be because he was given a three and a half year contract in January, and Ashley will NOT want to sack him (inflicting the wrath of the fans) and have to pay his contract up. But Keegan won't want to resign and effectively write-off whatever millions it took to tempt him back to that lunatic asylum.

Expect him to leave "by mutual consent" in due course, once they've thrashed out a severance package and a provision that Keegan buttons it.

There is a rumour that Ashley lent Keegan quite a lot of money to prop up his football school in Scotland and that if Keegan leaves, Ashley wants that money back. Expect the wrangling to go on and on.

Allegedly if he walks he has to pay back 1 mill, if he's sacked he's due 8 mill. Wrangling will go on and on.

That is exactly what I heard. Keegan has got a 3 and a half year deal. Don't expect to see him walk away just yet.

With that in mind it's obvious what Kev will do. He won't take another training session, keep picking the youth team for every game, fine every first team player a months wages for being a Newcastle player and play the midget forwad in goal. After three 8-0 thrashings by Stoke, Hull and WBA, Ashley will either have him arrested, kill him or pay up the 8 mill.

Are we sure it's the busines genius Mike Ashley who is in charge or is it his evil twin Denis?

There has been no annoucement from Kev himself. I would imagine that the club are putting pressure on him to keep quiet until the situation has been sorted either way. If he remains as manager he doesn't to have said things to the press which he would subsequently regret.

A bit of a quandry there. If KK walks out, the club don't have to fork out when it's their bad behavior that's at fault.
If he stays, he won't want the club to prosper by their conduct, and if the team loses until they fire him - he'll have screwed the fans.

A bizarre situation all round.
