They were questionesd today why they couldn't get in yet i can drive all the way from Brighton without any issues .Think i upset the applecart :) , mind you i might of shyed away from it if Brighton weren't playing Blackburn today !!!!

I just worked from home on Friday because of the snow. The company has given everyone a laptop and phone so they can work from anywhere, which ruins snow days now.

This is a strange thread do people having a sneaky snow day off bother you that much? live you own lives.

It doesn't bother me I just find it amusing that they have a cheeky skive, fair enough but then allow themselves to be filmed and not only filmed but admit to the fact they could have easily made it into work.

If was anyone who worked for me they'd get the push! Though I'm a nice boss haha and when one of my staff said they'd rather stay away and could I cope without them I was perfectly fine with it. Could have sorted cover but in the end predicted would be quieter customer wise, saved myself paying out the wages, and figured in a pinch I could actually do some work myself if we got swamped

If people are honest then everybody wins. Lie about it (especially then announce it to anyone, let alone the UK at large on TV) and it's a different matter all together

In my previous role I was entirely home based - I ended up working more hours than if I went to an office as I tended use the time I would otherwise be traveling to actually do some work. Around 30% of the company were home workers. It was very obvious who the shirkers were and they very quickly would have their contracts changed to office working pretty quickly.

The attitude that annoys me is the one that some bosses seem to have which is automatically home working is a bad thing because everyone would skive. When managed properly it can save a company a fortune AND get better productivity from staff ( partly because they tend to work longer hours and partly because they feel valued and trusted ).

Absolutely agree. The place I worked wasn't particularly well managed. In fact it was that lack of value and trust that you mention that meant it didn't really work. Partly because people used home working to avoid the bad atmosphere in the office. At the end of the day if you don't feel valued and trusted you're not going to work hard an if you are, you are. Interestingly, my previous job to that actively encouraged home working and if you sent an email while you were on holiday, you got told off for using it as work time. That was a great place and as you say if it's managed properly and you respect your staff, home working is a no-brainer.

So, out of interest, on a scale where snow skiving is 10, where do you place spending your working hours reading and posting on a forum?

Doesn't really affect my work as even when I'm at work I have hours of down time to do with what I wish. Coming on here when I'm supposed to be working would be a bit ridiculous and fairly easy to spot. However, when I could get away with it the last thing I would do is go on telly and rub it in my boss' face.
