There was a certain Albion player who went out on to the pitch at The Den in an inebriated condition. Unfortunately there were no substitutes allowed in those days, and he was slower than a snail going to bed. We had to put up with him for the full ninety minutes. I will not say his name, but he has just been appointed as temporary manger of a Premiership team.
When he was being chased down, Darren Freeman used to hoof the ball in front of himself and then struggle (and often fail) to catch it up. It happened often enough that it became his trademark.
But he did score a hat trick against Mansfield in the opening game of the season in 1999
