Sledging

Anyone know if there has been any good sledging in the Test so far? Seeing as we're doing so poorly I would have thought the Aussies would have been in their element... :(

p.s. you can watch highlights on bbc by pressing red button rather than having to wait for the highlights show... (although a slightly shorter version)

Dont know about sledging but that ball Warne threw at Pieterson after bowling his first ball wasnt far away from hitting him

was it as good as harmy's first ball?!

I'm guessing you didn't see it then? Warney bowled, Pieterson attempted a sort of line drive shot which came straight back to Warney who then chucked it full on at the keeper to get Pieterson either back into his crease or out....it whizzed straight past Pietersons shoulders (as he'd turned slightly away).....a bit unsporting as Pieterson wasn't anywhere near being out of his crease and no chance of a stumping....

Giving the whipping we're currently on the end of I'm not sure there's any need for them to try and 'psych' us out. We seem to be doing a pretty decent job of cocking this up ourselves.

I saw that at lunchtime and thought it was well out of order.

What would have happened to Warne if he had actually hit Pieterson.

In football he would have been sent off for deliberately kicking a ball at an opponent. I seem to remember a player kicking the ball at Rivaldo during the Japan/Korea World Cup and getting sent off.

Not heard of any yet, but here's a few classics:

Glenn McGrath v Eddo Brandes

McGrath was bowling to the Zimbabwe number 11 - who was unable to get his bat anywhere near the ball.

McGrath, frustrated that Brandes was still at the crease, wandered up during one particular over and inquired: "Why are you so fat?"

Quick as a flash, Brandes replied: "Because every time I make love to your wife, she gives me a biscuit."

Even the Aussie slip fielders were in hysterics.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Viv Richards v Greg Thomas

This incident took place during a county championship match between Glamorgan and Somerset.

Glamorgan paceman Thomas had beaten the bat a couple of times and informed Richards: "It's red, round and weighs about five ounces, in case you were wondering."

The very next ball was given the King Viv treament and smashed out of the ground, into a river - at which point Richards piped up: "Greg, you know what it looks like. Now go and find it."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Merv Hughes v Robin Smith

Smith played and missed while facing Hughes in the 1989 Lord's Test between England and Australia.

Hughes, never short of a word or two, told the Hampshire star: "You can't f***ing bat, mate."

Smith then smashed the next ball to the boundary and replied: "Hey Merv, we make a fine pair.

"I can't f***ing bat and you can't f***ing bowl."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Merv Hughes v Javed Miandad

The big fella popped up again with another classic, this time in the 1991 Adelaide Test against Pakistan.

Hughes was less than impressed when Javed called him a "fat bus conductor" as the pair squared up to one another.

A few balls later, Hughes got his man and as Javed walked past, could not resist shouting "Tickets, please!"

I havent seen any sledging yet, seems to be being played in pretty good sportsmanship.

Sounds like Warne did what Harmison did earlier in the day, except Harmisons hit the stumps, though he looked to be doing it from frustration more than anything.

Here is another Mcgrath one.

it was Australia V The West Indies a few years back, And Mcgrath asked a west Indian batsman (cant remember who): "What Does Brian lara's Cock taste like?"

To which he replied,"Ask your wife".:D

Apparently the aussie bowler went baserk and had to be restrained.:clap2:

Or Ian Healy

when a commentator which was picked up by the microphones when Arjuna Ranatunga (?) called for a runner on a really hot day in Oz... "You don't get a runner for being an overweight, unfit, fat ****"

I guess if you dish it out, you've got to be prepared to take it back, but to put McGrath's reaction into context, his wife was fighting what looked like a losing battle against cancer at the time.

Yeah, true. Was a bit harsh to say that I suppose.

Another one from England v australia a few years back.

Mark waugh, batting for australia at the time, said to England inexpirenced bowler Jimmy Ormond:

"f*** me mate, look who it is! what are you doing out here? Theres no way you are good enough to play for England."

His response: "perhaps not, but at least i'm the best player in my familly".

'ove actually
14. Fred Trueman bowling. The batsman edges and the ball goes to first slip, and right between Raman Subba Row’s legs. Fred doesn’t say a word. At the end of the over, Row ambles past Trueman and apologises sheepishly. “I should’ve kept my legs together, Fred”. “So should your mother” he replied.

...or last year in the Ashes.

Boycott commentating and McGrath had just had one dropped and was fuming. Next delivery and he clean bowls Vaughan but the umpire rules no ball.

Cue - Boycott wetting himself and spluttering "couldn't 'appen to a nicer bunch.

Classic. I still chuckle about that - especially the look on the Aussies faces
