Loan Star could stay

Albion are interested in signing Matt Thornhill – for good.

Boss Russell Slade has refused to rule out a permanent move for the on-loan Nottingham Forest midfielder.

Thornhill impressed on his return to the starting line-up in Tuesday’s 2-0 home win against Gillingham.

The 21-year-old is with the Seagulls until January but Slade is contemplating trying to keep him.

Slade revealed: “I am absolutely not ruling it out. I think it will be up for discussion and obviously Matty’s opinion will come into that.

“I am sure he would have wanted to have played more games than he has but he’s got himself a shirt at the moment and it is up to him to hang onto it.

“He looks after the ball well, he has got good energy and he has a little bit of an eye for getting in the box and getting a goal.

“He’s proved that a little bit at Forest. I think there is so much more to come from him.

“The boys will tell you in training he has a really good attitude and he’s a good footballer.”

Thornhill is concentrating, for now, on commanding a regular place in the side after replacing fellow Forest loanee Arron Davies against Gillingham.

He said: “It is a bit early to be thinking about what happens in January but hopefully I can stay in the team and get as many games as I can.

“It was iffy settling in to start with but it’s a nice place to live and that helps. It makes you feel at home.”

Would be a very positive move IMO, he hasn't played much this year but has already proved himself at a higher level.

Like the look of him, not on the wing, mind - but you can tell he's a good footballer.

Slightly surprised by this, I must say - he's only 21, and most of the Forest fans seem to consider him one of their best young prospects. I'd think it very unlikely that we'd be able to get him in permanently, but I guess if Matt's desperate to stay, and Davies' isn't too desperate to keep him, you never know.

Have not been impressed with him to be honest. Thought that he was better against Gillingham but nothing to shout about but Gary Roberts sounda the bees knees and maybe should be signed.

Slightly harsh given that he's only started one game and hasn't played in his natural position, I think we need to see more of Roberts as well, he looks good but I don't think we should give him a contract straight away as he needs to prove himself.

I think he will develop into a good player, but i'd rather have Gary Roberts

I must agree that on reflection it is a little harsh as I have only seen him come on as a sub before Tuesday so give him a chance but as regards Gary Roberts he has all of the credentials if he can overcome his problems and only time can tell on that score, which we dont have a lot of to get results.

If we give him a 1 year contract that gives us chance to see how good he is and play him if he is good we either keep him or sell him in January. We are the winners either way unless he reverts back to his old habits.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I hope he proves me wrong, but i do see him as a bit of a carthorse. Generally lumbers about and i haven't seen him play a stunning ball yet, often actually losing us possession. If he keeps playing on the left then it's down to Hoyte and Benny Elliott to savage the opposition's left-side and have McNult dancing giraffe-leggedly with the Thorn in our side covering him. I started worrying about him during Brentford away, and that worry hasn't been cured. Just as same worry as when i see a ball played back for the Kuips to boot at wildly.
As i said, i do hope he proves my initial judgement wrong.

I'd say give him a 2-3 year because if he can get over his demons he will hot property, just stick a clause in his contract saying we can terminate it if we have reasonable evidence to suggest he has relapsed
