KNIGHT TURNS DOWN RANGERS MOVE
Wednesday 20th August 2003

Leon Knight could be set to sign a permanent deal with Brighton after he turned down a move to Division Two rivals Queens Park Rangers.

The 20-year-old striker is currently on loan from Chelsea but is expected to seal a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge due to the array of attacking options open to Claudio Ranieri.

Knight has enjoyed his time at The Withdean Stadium but Rangers had hoped to swoop in and steal him away from under the noses of Albion.

Knight notched a brace against Ian Holloway's side as the two clubs met on Monday night, and then went to meet the Loftus Road boss for talks over a move to QPR.

However, Rangers chief executive David Davies has confirmed that Knight has turned down a move to QPR and is now set to join Steve Coppell's side.

"We did all we could to persuade Leon to sign but he has shown enormous loyalty to Steve Coppell - an all too rare commodity in today's game," Davies told the club's official website.

"We are really disappointed that we have not been able to secure the services of an impressive player, but I would like to thank him for taking time out to visit us and I wish him the very best of luck with his career.

"Ian Holloway will now continue his search for a striker to bring in to the club."

On NSC for over two decades...
Yep, definitely on the ticker too. "Leon Knight has rejected a move to QPR & is now expected to sign for Brighton".

I'm still waiting for Kelly Dalglish to say it though!!!
