Sky sports news - Heaton

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
It was football karma - or put another way, two refereeing howlers and a nightmare evening with the assessor.

He should have gone for the first one, although I could excuse that to a point - the law says he has to be going towards goal and it be a clear goalscoring opportunity. While in my opinion I don't think the defenders would have covered Buckley sliding the ball back in, he did take the ball a lot wider with that touch. So there is an excuse for the ref, even if he got it wrong.

There's a still photo on the other thread that shows Buckley running in a straight line towards the goal. You can tell by the lawnmower tracks on the pitch.

Quite. A point I made on the Heaton poll thread. Too many people seem to be inferring Buckers was heading to the corner flag with that touch. It hardly deviated.

Think the ref looked at the footage at half time and realised he mad a big mistake and should have sent him off, that's why he got the second yellow in the second half

Saw it very clearly as he took him down and Buckley was heading towards goal. It was a clear sending off. Can't comment on the other being in the North Stand but Buckley appears to have admitted it brushed his head but whether that would have meant he wouldn't have handled it still I don't know.

I think the ref didnt take the situation fully into account and made a quick descion that there was a player on the line, however it it was the other way round, defender making the tackle and goalkeeper on the line I think he would have sent the player off.

I heard many people saying oh but there was a defender back, normally when the defender is the last man there is usually only the goalkeeper to beat.

If he could of had a reply of the incident then he would have gone but when things happen quickly mistakes can be made.

I think he got both bookings wrong but the second wouldnt of happened if he got the first right.

2 wrong decisions, which equalled the correct result, with Heaton being sent off. I have no complaints.
