Just cancelled my Sky in total - gone to Virgin and saved £24 a month AND got much faster broadband.

Mine was also knackered last night - all greeny pink and snowy. I just unplugged the HD box, left it a couple of minutes then plugged it back in and it was fine. It's happened a few times but the old switch it off and on again trick always seems to sort it out.

Unless you have a TFT >32" its not even worth contemplating HD from Sky. Even then its low data HD, 720p (no way 1080 as they say..)

Just cancelled mine. Not worth the extra £120 each year IMHO.

If you haven't got a screen that is capable of taking HD (1080 and not 720 whih is barely different from standard definition) , then your picture will be in standard def.

And HD is really only works on screens above 42 inches and you should be sitting quite a way further back from the screen that you'd be used to doing in a normal living toom to get the proper effect. Of course Sky don't tell you that in the spiel.............

Mines only 32" (hate to boast)' but have to sayafter watching cricket and footie in HD, you can really see the difference. Agree though that it is a tad expensive just to see what type of grass is on the field..

have to say imo the big difference is from regular SD to 720, but negligable difference 720 to 1080. my signal/box has somehow become borked and i only get 576i on regular channels and noticed immediatly the day it happen having spent months not noticing if i was on 720 or 1080 channels. though once used to it again, 576 isnt the end of the world. it doesnt change a plot line, render a documenty more or less interesting, or make shit programmes good.

All Sky HD channels are transmitted at 1080i but there is an option to output 720p to the TV. If you have a full HD TV (1080p) its best to leave it at 1080i otherwise you end up with the box and the TV upscaling and downscaling (or vice versa) so the resolution is messed about.

Happened to lots of Sky customers all around the UK yesterday. Switching it off and back on remedies this particular problem.

Sky will do a "reconditioned" box for £50. Mine was not reconditioned though it was brand new and the installer said sky just asked him to put on a new box. Hardly worth insuring at that cost.

crap....if you have more than 1 box in your house the insurance is worth its weight in gold because after the first year the warranty runs out then the box(s) dish, become your responsibility...so if it goes wrong its going to cost you more than £50.00 for a dish, HD BOX. or any sky box at that matter, that insurance also covers the dish, remote. everything,

With respect, err, BOLLOCKS to that.
I've had a couple of boxes go on the blink over the last few years and phoned up to have it sorted. The second they start talking about callout charges etc, I tell them I'm already paying them £60-odd per month for movies, sports and HD, if they're charging then I'm leaving. BOTH times they've backed off and I've had it sorted for nothing (it usually involves a "just let me speak to my supervisor" or a transfer to the "cancellations team", which is actually a retentions team).

If you're on a cheapo package then maybe its a different story, but in my experience, as I'm getting the works, they don't want to lose my monthly d/d.

Insurance is for wussies.

Oh, and I cuffing LOVE the HD on my 42" Panasonic. The sports in particular just looks glorious. I can't go back to SD after that, its like having cling film across the screen.
