next week it is six years since Anastasia died, she should have been celebrating her ninth birthday later this year. it is impossible for me to think of that tiny not yet three year old being gone for so long or being old enough to celebrate her ninth birthday.

but she's not here and i know i am like a stuck record on this. i believe passionately in blood and organ donation, she didn't get the transplant she needed in time but she lived for two years because of a complete stranger who donated their blood and then someone else who gave her bone marrow.

please, if you are able go ahead and donate or do what you can.

you lot were such a support to us through her illness and when she died, mrs starry has kept all the cards and letters and our callum remembers the applause there was for anastasia at the leeds game. i'm not around here too much these days and i know i've rubbed a few of you up the wrong way in the past but we're always grateful for the kindness shown to us from this forum.

Stuck record? not at all mate, it's people like yourself who are pivotal in keeping this sort of issue in the limelight.

I can only wish you and your family success in this.

All the very best.

i dont know you or your family mate, but having young kids (3 and 8) its every parents worst nightmare to lose a child, i cant begin to imagine how you felt or feel today and I prey I dont have to learn. My thoughts are with you all.

Just can't get my head around people who aren't in favour of organ donation. Starry's story should bring the truth home to the doubters. Very sad stuff but great that a little girl's life was at least extended by a few years and that she could spend some more time with a loving family.

Brighton factually.....
Before I had my daughter 2 years ago to be honest I never gave these subjects a second thought. However now my wife and myself both carry donar cards and I just could not imagine the strength required to deal with what you and your family went through and I wish you all the best in your endeavours.

Being a recipient of an organ transplant I can only urge all of you to be on the list...contrary to belief the organ goes to the nearest match and not how long you have been waiting...I waited 8 years for mine,my wife( now sadly departed) waited two years...it cost you nothing and saves lives....what better memory can the family have...

Paddy. Was only thinking of Anastasia last week. Never be afraid to speak up – its people like you who make others aware of what can and should be done and inspire people to sign donor cards. Not able to donate blood but looking into become an organ donor myself. Hope Sinead and the rest of the family are keeping well and you had a good Christmas. Happy New Year to you all.

Frances.

thanks all.

shegull we're good thank you, sinead is grand and keeping busy with the children. she'll be touched to know you remembered Anastasia.

anyway, today it is six years since she died and one day it might be you or your loved one waiting for a donor organ or told there is no marrow match and i wouldn't wish that on anyone. we miss her every single day and while time does make it 'easier' to deal with it, it never stops hurting and there is always someone missing from our family.

please go and register to donate if you can. it really does make a difference.

and please don't put it off until tomorrow....

My thoughts are with you during this difficult time, and as mentioned before, people like your goodselves keep these topics in the fore front of peoples minds, and that saves lives. Surely that can only be a good thing?

i do 2 out of the 4 things mentioned. I carry a doner card, and i donate blood.

Lets hope your post encourages a few more to do something, and feel rewarded at the end of it. I know i do after giving blood...

Try to carry a card. Even if you don't, make sure you have discussed this with your friends and family and make them aware that you wish to donate should the worst happen. I'm sure the thoughts on all on NSC are with you Starry.

I cannot begin to imagine the pain you must still feel , I can only hope it lessens with time and you can live with it easier, you have my deepest sympathy and I wish you luck in your organ donation task.

Just can't get my head around people who aren't in favour of organ donation.

Each to their own, I'm not going to be much use when I'm gone so I'm donating myself to medical research. I had considered donating for organ transplants but could not bear the thought of the bun fight for my penis.

Your post has prompted me to sign up for organ donation (something I've always meant to do). A simple online form - can't believe it's taken me this long to sign up.
