Having purchased a seat it is not unusal to want to sit on it and of course there are plenty of people who are unable to stand for any time also short adults and children will have chunks of the action blanked out due to those who have no thought for others, I know several youngsters who have stopped going to Withdean for this very reason.
A thought do these inconsiderate types stand up when they go to the cinema/theatre

Are you seriously saying you know people that stopped going to Withdean because their view was blocked by standing?! What is wrong with them? Did they not notice the roughly 99% of Brighton fans sitting down that they could have joined?

The problem for me is the inconsistency in applying the rule which means we continually have these debates. If there was a chance we'd be able to stand don't you think they would have investigated building a standing area in the Amex? If it truly is what the fans want?

I doubt clubs want to be seen as advocating a 'standing area' when regulations say the stadia (for the top two divisions anyway) should be full-seater. Even though the regulations are nonsense and there are no safety issues with standing at a designated seat.

No, you're going to have to do better than that. Like Spider I really can't believe that you know of youngsters who have stopped going because people stood up and blocked their view. Not in the home sections at Withdean where the regulations are rigorously enforced. And if there is some block in some stand where people DO persistently stand - move. Buy a ticket in another block. And tell me where the 'standing' block is because I want to 'sit' there as I can assure you that there are plenty of lifeless areas at Withdean where people do stay seated for most of the game. (Although they do stand up when we score).

And you're theatre/cinema analogy is crap. In a theatre or cinema you're supposed to 'sit down shut up' (as the thread title says) as you are a passive spectator; you're not there to take part. (But if it is a show with any element of audience participation, such as a pantomime, you'll see kids leaping to their feet to shout out "He's behind you!") Football crowds are part of the event and football itself would have no attraction, probably not even for the likes of you, if it were played out in front of silent and motionless crowds who simply applauded at the end of each 'act'.

When I went for the Amex presentation I asked about sitting/standing as I often find it uncomfortable to stand for the full 90 minutes, I was advised to go in the WSU as the seating will be strictly monitored there, however, I have wanted to stand for the biggest majority of the 47 years I have been going to the Albion, just that I am not quite as tolerant to standing as I used to be (well I am but my body isn't), I was told that the standing would be tolerated in the North stand so I assume that is where the "standers" will go.
I follow the Albion home and away at the biggest majority of the games and must say that I haven't come across anyone that if i have had trouble seeing the game (and my missus is only 5'2" plus my 10 yo grandson) haven't moved or sat down if asked.
I suppose my point is that if you have paid for your seat and the person in front of you wants to stand then ask them to move or move yourself, quite how this will work at the Amex I don't know, but it's not to long before I will find out, will be interesting though as there will be 10 of us sitting together

Northstand standing everywhere else can sit.

Quite, exactly as it should be and was in the terrace days, so if you want to sit, it's the west or east - you can't have everything, it's either the comfort of sitting all game or a bit of atmosphere.

I'll post one more thing - this may well affect our ticket allocation (if we go up next season). Whilst they are rebuilding the 'North bank', the away fans will be in the flank of the South Bank (Jack Harris stand), as we were last time we visited Wolves. If the Jack Harris stand has its' capacity reduced, we will almost certainly get a smaller allocation.

Last time I went to Molineux (Carling cup 2nd round this season), a smoke grenade was thrown onto the pitch, so I don't think the locals have been doing much to convince the local council of their ability to behave. Shame really.
