I've probably mentioned earlier on this thread that I'm not Linekar's greatest fan - He's too far up his own arse for my liking and fails the "Would I fancy a pint with him" test but the amount of media attention he gets and column inches he generates because he isn't following one mainstream set of views does all seem a bit much. I mean, he's clearly not goose stepping his way into the BBC studios is he?

Oh yes. I had to switch over from the BBC coverage of the FAC final to ITV just to avoid him, and that's saying something.
Same. Coisty is marginally preferable. Usually.
Got to say, Coisty called the goal as well. "Why do they pass it about at the back when it will end up a long ball forwards, here we go then"
As for Lineker, is/was he worth the £millions he got paid? I'd rather sit down with Des Lynam for a chat.
Surely in an open market Sky or TNT wouldn't have paid him a fraction of his wages. Do people tune in on a Saturday because Gary is on, and if he's on holiday do they all turn off? Doubt it.

The post that got him in trouble was pretty dumb though. I like Lineker but he’s got a lot of people after him and was either deliberately anti semitic or stupid.
Wouldn't be the first time he's been caught out.

It’s literally an open market. He is, or was, a contractor.

I'm pretty sure there is an open market on TV presenters and their wages, it's not like he drives trains for London Underground or something.

Also, and this is more a reply to this post:
He's too far up his own arse for my liking and fails the "Would I fancy a pint with him" test
Would you really not fancy a pint with him? The guy who scored 40-odd goals for England, went to play football in Spain, has been all over the world watching football? No expectation that he might have anything at all interesting to say?

He is following a pretty mainstream set of rules, depressingly

There are a few pundits on more than £1m. Agree that people tune in for the football not the presenters though.

As someone who does a podcast I would love to be £1 behind Goalhanger, very successful business.

I liked him as a footballer and liked him as a presenter. He had views - some I agreed with, some I didn’t. He can, and did, get some things wrong. I suspect innocently.
I didn’t like what Hamas did to innocent Israelis, I dislike even more what the Israel government is doing to tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians.
Lineker has the whole of the uk media to promote his views, I have NSC! Whatever.

Shame. I like him as a presenter and especially as an interviewer.

Exactly this for me. Stupid or Antisemetic sums it up.

To refer in earlier comments to comparing the UK Government to 1930s Germany, and then saying he’s unaware of mainstream Nazi Propaganda against Jewish people as rats is doubtful. Or stupid.

Lineker is a mix of stupid and arrogant, and he has access to Twitter.
This combination was always going to get the better of him eventually.

Got his comeuppance!!!!! Far too smug & thought he was untouchable & could do or say as he wanted. Worst thing that happened was when he was only suspended for a show (or whatever it was) as the attention he got only empowered him to carry on thinking he was beyond reproach.

Nice to see someone in the public eye with some morals and the nuts to stand up for what he believes in.

I have a lot of time for Lineker, he's clearly not anti semetic and made a mistake that he has not tried to weasle out of.

I hope he will continue his work in football and highlighting the injustices of our time.

Like anyone else, Jews that can seperate the actions of the Israeli government from their religion don't need to be told this.

Those that can't, really have little unbiased perspective on this. There little point in arguing against such entrenched dogma.

So if it's all the same to you, I don't think I'll bother.
