Penetration - Don't Dictate
Stiff Little Fingers - Bits Of Kids
The Jags - Back Of My Hand
XTC - Generals & Majors

Don't think Johnny Allan's Promised Land is one that got away. I distinctly remember that in the charts (low down in the charts, true, but in the Top 40). Great song though.

It never made it into the top 40 despite going close 3 times. The first time it was poised to go in when Elvis Presley released his (inferior) version and radio immediately swapped to that version, killing it stone dead. Second time around it was nowhere near, but with the third effort we almost made it when it was a double A side with Sweet Dreams by Tommy McLain. Close but no cigar.

Also got some great singles by the Normil Hawaiins, Family Fodder, Young Marble Giants. Big Hair's Puppet on a String was also a classic. And who remembers Shrink, who shaved half his head and painted his face gold... Valid or Void deserved to be a hit, he was way ahead of his time.

Aaah the memories.

Blimey, plenty of these in my record collection.

7 Minutes to Midnight still makes the hair stand on end.
24 Hours by the Chefs was a criminally ignored pure slice of pop.

I'd add

Wild Swans - Revolutionary Spirit
Au Pairs - Diet
Girls at our Best - Fast Boyfriends
B Movie - Remembrance day and Nowhere girl
House of Love - Destroy the heart
A Certain Ratio - Shack up

Genuine - in those jeans
fabulous - so into you
puddle of mudd - blurry
linkin park - well, all of them

I hope you're taking the piss BAG. Some of these were hits, the ones I heard were poor IMO.

Great to see Wah! mentioned on here, same goes with Monochrome Set.

I amazed that I've heard ofthe majority of stuff being put up on this thread, off to Soulseek I go for a reminder of how they sound!

other way round Lush if I'm thinking correctly? Blue Rondo was also done by Dave Brubeck for all you jazz fans...

or maybe somewhere in the anals of music I've missed a band named by a Dave Brubeck track... apologies if I have..

At last. A name I recognise (no, you're not alone Easy but then I'm stuck in a 60's time warp)

It's the only jazz cd I have and I love Dave Brubeck.

I really thought Femme Fatale By Skat (Why did they change there name from the Chefs?) was gonna make it big in the Charts. Why did no-one else have the taste?

I think Driver's Seat finally made the charts at about the third or fourth time of asking. It's also quite well known over here.

Latin Quarter - Radio Africa. Now you're talking! Can't understand how that wasn't a hit, especially since I bought at least 7 copies of it (I exagerate not).
