Did anyone else catch that documentary on Channel 4 last night about that Simon Harries kid, the one who appeared on Wogan and a load of other chat-shows in the 80's?
He is now a she, called Loren, and she lives with her family in a mock-mock Tudor cottage on a Cardiff Council estate. The family were really bizarre. They all had doctorates in Meta-Physics that they had bought off the internet from the USA. They even had "academic" qualifications from a College that was really their house. The Dad and two of his sons had set themselves up as private detectives as well as doing counselling on the side.
In the end Keith Allen (who was doing the documentary) got so pissed off with the family that he ended up storming off and quitting the show, calling them "a bunch of f*cking loonies".
They were the most f*cked up family i've ever seen, yet I almost found myself feeling sorry for them. They didn't have any friends and the rest of the family had cut them off. They had stones and bricks lobbed through their windows nearly every weekend. Loren herself seemed to be utterly miserable and the Mother was horrible. Yet they were so desperate to be on TV that I just had to laugh at them. Very, very strange.
