Steve Sidwell insists he has not returned to Albion to put his feet up.
The central midfielder is hungry to help the Seagulls’ promotion challenge after months of inactivity at Stoke.
Sidwell, 33, re-signed on loan for the rest of the season, says his commitment to the cause will be as full-blooded as when he joined the club as a teenager for a free-scoring spell on loan from Arsenal.
He told The Argus: “I think you’ll get the answer in the first game I play. If there’s a tackle to be won I’ll be flying into that. If there’s a header to be won and it’s 60-40 against me I’ll be flying into that.
“The passion, the drive, the determination, that will always be there – and the commitment as well. If the Brighton fans can remember what I was like a few years ago when I was here then I’m sure they’ll be remembering it again.”
Sidwell has played 200 times in the Premier League for Stoke, Fulham, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Reading but has made only five top-flight starts in 18 months in the Potteries and his contract expires in the summer.
“It’s been tough,” he said. “The intention was to go there, take the club to the next level and be part of that. With the signings they’ve made, chances have been limited.
“There are a lot of good players in the same position. It’s been frustrating. It can only be a good thing for me and for Brighton to be let loose.
“I feel like I’ve been sort of wound up. Just let me go and let me get out there. There’s 18 months of frustration but no bitterness, no fault towards anyone, I just want to get out there and play, show the club, the manager, the fans, the chairman, everyone that has believed in me what I can do.”
