Should transfer window we shortened to just 1 week?

To encourage an element of put your cock on the block or not and avoid what seems to just be a long game of brinkmanship where most deals are done on the last day and in the last hours at that! Meanwhile the fans just get messed about as players sit out of first teams "not in right frame of mind" etc and managers must go potty re: disruption to their plans. The idiots at Sky, never ones to miss a trick turn the whole circus into some sort of 'exciting show that the fans love' with their slams shut deadline day nonsense. When really we could all do without this annual torpedo.

I'm not sure it would stop agents/clubs unsettling players in the build up to the window opening. Is there anything in the rules to stop you making offers outisde of the window, ready for deals to be completed when it opens?

I thought the idea of a transfer window was to limit the 'damage'. It was only a few years ago that we lost Currie & Cullip in the months leading up to Christmas without any warning.
At least this way managers know they have a settled side for 5 months.

Scrap the January window and make the Summer window end before the first ball is kicked.

I'd definitely shorten it or do away with the january one altogether. The current system is way too destabilising for teams. Witness the Bridcutt saga where a fit player rules himself out because he is waiting for his move. Most deals happen at the last minute as time dictates so the preceding three and bit weeks are a waste of time imo.

Agree - Transfer windows cause more problems and instability than they cure.

You could actually time it that the January window finishes on the Friday after the 3rd round cup games - that would at least minimise the impact on most team's league form??

I agree with the OP - it should be shortened - lots of teams spend most of January in a state of flux (as we are!), which is ridiculous at what is probably the pivotal point of the season.

'Most' isn't enough. Even if one club is hampered and/or disadvantaged by a club having to concentrate on an imminent match, they'd be within their rights to call it unfair.

Fair point. I do think teams should be allowed the opportunity to "Refresh" their squad mid-season but the mechanics of the January window are extremely distruptive and are open to abuse.

If it must be shortened, I think something like 15-20 days ought to be acceptable, from 3 January (allowing for Bank Holidays on 1 / 2 Jan).

I think it is fine as it is. If you support a team that has a few long term injuries going into the new year or are in crap position in the league. The Window can give you hope. If Tom gets injured tomorrow and its long term, I suspect a few people on here would the club to go out and get cover. The trouble with the window is that if you are doing well, it does not help you,as you may lose some of your better players. If you are in the bottom half of the table, it could give you a boast to bring a few players in.
