Fleetwood has turned down a move to Crewe because he wants to finish the season at Forest Green.

He's out of contract in the summer, so it's a lot like the Dean Hammond situation really.

He's under 23, which makes the situation VERY different.

Much better value IMO

It sounds like Murray is much more of a target man to play alongside Forster whereas I think Fleetwood is a similar style of forward to Forster.

Crewe were prepared to pay £150k for the less than prolific target man Damien Spencer from Cheltneham. I think there is even more of a premium on target men as they are in such short supply.

Just ask McGhee - he spent his entire time here trying to land one!

I disagree. Murray has a decent goal scoring record in a division where Fleetwood failed to make his mark last season. I am glad we have gone for Murray over him. It is a lot of money but I am sure that the management of the club have made sure on his ability before spending that much.

Never said I was not happy with the signing !!

Just that IMO £300,000 for Fleetwood would of been better value for money ;)

Have you seen either of them play?

I couldn't begin to make a judgement like that unless I had seen them both play a few games.

I am only in a position to comment on Fleetwood, having seen him play about 15 times this season, during which time I saw him score about half of his goals. Take it from me that he is a very good player when the ball is played at his feet or just a couple of yards in front of him to run onto, in a one on one situation with the goalie or a defender or two to beat he will normally score.

However, there is one vital component missing from his game that is important for a centre forward and that is strength in the air, he is not the largest of players and a largeish centre back can usually muscle him off the ball. This may be a small criticism, but I would rate him as a player in a similar mould to Forster, very useful when the ball is kept on the ground but not too good when mounting an aerial assault or at corners where the ball is lumped into the middle of the penalty box.

Also, Fleets has a tendency to go looking for the ball on the wing and certainly since the end of November has developed a tendency to drift out of games, this will definitely have been noticed by the large number of scouts following his progress...if I can spot it with my untrained eye then I am sure they will have.

You have not been charged for these scouting notes on Super Stuart Fleetwood.

Sounds a lot like Nicky Forster (although he is actually not bad in the air - when it is crossed into the box anyway, not so good for lumped long balls).
