depends which division we are in

The clue is in the question...

If we get back to Div 1, should Mr Butters be given a new contract (It expires end of this season) and if so, how long.

I would say one year. He has plenty of division 1 experience.

It's not a question of "deserving" a new contract!! We can't afford to hand out contracts as thank yous for past services rendered.

I agree that he has been an absolute rock this season, but it is DIVISION TWO. Instead of Norwich, Sunderland and West Ham the best he's had to cope with is Plymouth and a few lanky beanpoles from QPR.

(And while it's nice to say thank you for that, remember that he did spend an entire season sitting on his very highly paid arse, using up money that we could have spent on another player.)

Anyway...it's a question of - can he do a job in Division One? Or will we be sitting with our hands over our eyes as yet another nippy centre-forward turns him inside out or he's outjumped by someone with rather more salmon-like qualities.

What do you HONESTLY think!?

Lets get there first

He could be useful to have around but we will still need to strengthen the squad if we go up.

To be honest the main problem area we have is the midfield, so unless McGhee has someone in mind who he thinks could do a better job, I would say Buters is definitely worth keeping on. I would suggest that MM would be far better off concentrating on the midfield as I think the defence has been good this season.

Whilst the top DIV 1 teams may give him the run-around he appears to be more than capable of holding his own against teams in the lower echelons, which is where we lost out last time. If we can compete with those at the bottom we should stay up, if we do indeed get promoted.

Yes, he has earnt it, but I think we will still need to strengthen in defence if we get to div 1, i.e. add more pace

Perhaps on a slightly lesser wage, if he's on the amount reported

a galaxy far far away
I think he'd get found out, i'd release him and Blackwell. Sign a div 1 centre back who would compete with Virgo and Cullip for the 2 positions. I'd only keep him or Blackwell if we were going to play 3 at the back

Worth an extra year... has been a revelation this season...

Don't forget, he has a lot of Div 1 experience, and this would be a valuable commodity in that Div...

Yes. One year on reduced terms.

Well he won't accept that will he.

His influence has been top class, and when Danny C is back on form it'll be a cracking partnership, I reckon.
