1999 just called and wants their fashion back!
Late 90s / early 00's for me was all about ridiculously baggy jeans which we'd wear until the ankle bits started to fray and then we'd haphazardly take a pair of scissors to them and turn them into tattered shorts.

F**k I was cool back then. So f**king cool.

OK for Joey Tribbiani maybe but not for an old git like me:(
I'm 65 and wouldn't be without my man bag. The wife went on strike and refused to carry my car key fob, sunglasses, reading glasses, GoPro and spare batteries (for the GoPro, not me).

It's a subtle little number, too... 🤣

I think short length is about finding a style which suits you and your height and leg length will have a major impact on what works.

Where I am struggling as an old fart is the return of the sock. It took me quite a few years to adopt and adapt the trainer sock look and now young folk are bringing back socks! Some looks are terrible sandals/crocks and socks are a no from me, but I have noted the skater look creeping back and wonder if I need to give this a spin?
White socks and sliders is an awful look that seems to have gained traction of late.

I retired last June. My last day in the office was a lovely warm day and I went for coffee with some colleagues. I remember thinking this is the last time I wear long trousers when I don't have to. Type of shorts: with my legs, definitely just above the knee.

Well while out on Sunday afternoon for a walk around our fair City (Brighton, not Hove) and a sit down with a pint, people watching.
I could not help but notice fellas in all different types of shorts and lengths, to me the short should be just past the knee exposing the knee when seated.
I myself prefer cutting off my old Carhartt Carpenter pants at just past the knee, I tried baggy Dickies Shorts and various others and just look like a dickhead.
While I normally wear shorts just above the knee, I did the same as you and love wearing them with a pair of American sports socks from Community Clothing. I have embellished the shorts with some crude sashiko mending. MrsBC and MsBC refuse to be seen out with me when sporting this ensemble.

I've noticed a lot of young women in particular adopting the skater look this summer. My daughter will be nicking my cut down Carhartt's, probably.
And at last I can wear my sandals with socks and claim to be trendy.

Just above the knee.

Any shorter risks indecent exposure.

(A droopy ball bag comes with old age, no?)

I don’t wear shorts while out and about. Much prefer a long trouser, linen or very light cotton while out strolling. Loose fit.

I find them so much more comfortable and cooler (temp wise) than shorts. Plus sun protection.

I wear shorts in the garden and indoors on hot days. Mostly light blue or pink cotton.

I have some cargo shorts for diy and gardening stuff .

I think that’s about it. Can I help you with anything else?
